South Dakota

Overview

• South Dakota is a state-funded court system.  South Dakota’s budget was not reduced in FY09 or FY10. 
• South Dakota has furlough policies and early retirement options in place but is not taking any action at this time.  While the Executive Branch has instituted a hiring freeze, the Judiciary has not done so.
• To keep spending down, South Dakota is giving close scrutiny to out-of-state travel requests and has started using interactive television for in-state meetings.
