New Jersey

Actions Underway

  • New Jersey is primarily a state-funded court system.  The county pays for the buildings and the cost of some pre-trial services.
  • New Jersey’s budget was reduced $32.5 million (greater that 5%) in FY09 and is facing a reduction of $52 million (greater than 8%) in FY10.
  • New Jersey reduced its staff by 300 employees in FY09 and projects a reduction of another 170 employees in FY10.  Reductions are being achieved through an early retirement incentive program, attrition and the strategic filling of vacancies.
  • There are two furlough days for all employees in Fiscal Year 2009 ending June 30, 2009.
  • New Jersey has asked its judges to voluntarily take two furlough days without pay on the same days the employees were furloughed. Most judges agreed to the furlough.
