Actions Underway

  • Nevada is primarily a locally funded court system. The state pays the salaries of the general jurisdiction judges.
  • Nevada's budget was reduced by $2.7 million (12%) in FY09, the estimated year-end amount to be returned to the state due to the court's reduction and other efforts.  Nevada is facing a $1.9 million in FY10, the difference between the appropriation received in fiscal year 2009 and the requested appropriation in 2010, less further reductions in fiscal year 2010.
  • Nevada is reviewing all vacancies for impact to operations before authorizing a hire.  To avoid layoffs, the Governor has recommended that employee salaries be cut by 6%, and thereby eliminating any merit raises or step increases. Nevada is considering furloughs of 12 days per year per employee.
  • The state is also looking at substantially increasing the employee share of insurance premiums and also changes to the retirement system.
  • Nevada is moving to electronic filing, records, citations and warrants. It is moving towards an electronic DMS and integrated CMS and technologies, video arraignments, digital recording and technologies to permit access from other locations
