Missouri
Actions Underway
- The Missouri Judiciary is funded by both the state and the counties. The state pays the salaries of general jurisdiction judges; payment for most other costs is divided between the state and the counties.
- $2.8 million (less than 4%) was withheld from Missouri’s FY09 budget.
- Through the use of $6.2 million in federal budget stabilization dollars placed in its core, the Missouri Judiciary avoided any reductions in its FY10 budget. It is unknown whether the Governor will withhold additional funds in FY10.
- Missouri expects that they will need to reduce funding for their CASA program and may need to delay the filling of judicial vacancies and the use of retired judges.
- Missouri is looking at securing greater flexibility in the allocation of judges and staff across organizational lines and is looking at their court reporter system for possible savings.
