Illinois
Actions Underway
- In Illinois, general jurisdiction judges and court reporters are paid by the state. Court facilities at the trial court level are funded out of local county revenues. Other expenses are a mix of state and local funding. Levels of county resources for the 23 judicial circuits vary widely. County's budget information is not provided to the Administrative Office.
- The Illinois Judiciary’s budget was reduced by $9,000,000 in FY09 and by $21,000,000 (5-8%) in FY10.
- Adult and Juvenile Probation Services suffered the greatest cuts in the Illinois budget; funds were reduced by 50% from last fiscal year's appropriation, down from approximately 65 million to 36 million.
- Illinois has begun e-filing in select case types in four (4) trial courts in the state on a pilot basis; e-access to court records, as defined by Supreme Court Policy, is permissible in every circuit with capability; e-guilty and e-citations are also permissible. Digital recording of trial court proceedings is available in approximately 20% of our trial courts. The Administrative Office is developing a plan for statewide implementation of e-business, which will include e-filing, as well as a module to support data collection and exchange. E-signatures and e-warrants continue to be under review and are not approved by the Illinois Supreme Court for implementation.
