Georgia

Actions Underway

  • Georgia is primarily locally funded.  The state funds salaries and benefits for the appellate courts, the AOC, general jurisdiction trial court judges, some juvenile court judges, judicial education, law assistants, judicial assistants, district court administrators and a handful of trial court administrators.
  • Georgia’s court budget was cut by $12 million in FY09 (greater than 8%) and by $7 million (less than 8%) in FY10.  Pay raises will be deferred and employer contributions to the state health benefit plan will be reduced.
  • Georgia has implemented a hiring freeze and travel ban.  Personnel will have been reduced by 9 percent by the end of the fiscal year, mostly through attrition.
    • There is a freeze on all raises - there have been no step increases or other raises awarded this fiscal year.
  • Georgia has had to postpone its move towards an electronic case management system with electronic filing and the centralized processing of cases.
