Domestic Violence Civil Protection Order

In the summer and fall of 2001, the Best Practices Institute solicited information about practices courts have implemented and deemed effective in the area of domestic violence civil protection orders. 

Descriptions of the nominated practices are available by practice area and jurisdiction. It is important to note that the practices listed have not been evaluated or endorsed by the Institute. The Institute’s descriptions of the practices are based on the jurisdiction’s submitted information and rated (see table below) based on the amount of supporting information available. During the summer of 2002, Institute staff asked the nominating jurisdictions to update their descriptions and add new supporting information if available.  As updates are conducted over time, the Institute anticipates that more information will become available on these practices and some will eventually emerge as “promising” and “best.” In the meantime, the practices are provided in the spirit of sharing information about other jurisdictions’ efforts in the area.
