Child welfare agency, court teams meet on data exchange
On May 13-14, National Center for State Courts staff presented a program in Philadelphia on data exchange between courts and child welfare agencies for states in the Northeastern part of the United States. (Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia as well as Puerto Rico.)
The program was the third in a series of regional meetings designed to provide technical assistance to state child welfare agency and court teams composed of both managers and information systems professionals. The meetings highlight the importance of data exchange to improve outcomes for children and provide technical assistance on:
- analysis of current business process information flows
- strategic planning
- the data requirements needed to conform to the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) protocols.
The meetings involve “hands on” technical assistance by NCSC technology staff and states are expected to prepare an action plan describing the progress they expect to make in the next six months. NCSC staff offer follow-up webinars to monitor and encourage progress.
The regional meetings are jointly sponsored by National Child Welfare Resource Centers on: Legal and Judicial Issues; Child Protective Services; Data and Technology; and Family Centered Practice and have had the support and participation of high-ranking program staff from the federal child welfare regional offices.
