What Is Happening at NCSC

NCSC Documents  Recent NCSC reports and publications and NCSC seminal works. Also includes Trends articles, Court Executive Development Programs (CEDP) papers, Court Technology Conference Presentations, Justice System Journal articles and NACM Achievement Awards.

Digital Archive  Works on judicial administration accumulated since NCSC's inception in 1971 that have been digitized to preserve their historic value.

Court Web Sites   Judicial branch links for each state, including the administrative office of the courts, the court of last resort, any intermediate appellate courts, and each trial court level.

Production Services   Institute of Court Management provides a full service production capability to create video components of online courses, develop interactive DVDs and deliver Web streaming content.

"Web Administrators Discuss Accessibility." Florida State Courts News, Archives. (See 2nd Article.) (October 2007).  Representatives from both the Supreme Court and the Office of the State Courts Administrator (OSCA) gave two accessibility presentations at the National Court Technology Conference (CTC10) held in Tampa, October 2-4.  

The Emergence of E-Everything. the Conference of Chief Justices - Resolution 13  (January 2006).  The Conference of Chief Justices recognizes that the public has embraced the Internet and other advanced technologies, which has increased the demand on government organizations for technology-based services.

Internet Guide to the Idaho Courts. Idaho Court System (July 2005).  This Guide is designed to provide a quick source of basic information for journalists covering the Idaho court system. It contains links to numerous relevant laws and rules, as well as to other Internet sources of legal information.

Cartwright, Robert. Web Style Guide. Arizona Judicial Department (January 2000).  A well-written "How To" manual on effective Web design.  Robert Cartwright is Webmaster at the Technology Information Division of the Arizona Administrative Office of the Courts.

Web Blogs/Web Casting

Reynolds, Carl. CourTex. Office of Court Administration, Austin, Texas.  CourTex serves to inform about the work of the state courts in Texas, from the perspective of the state court administrator.

SCOTUSBlog. Akin Gump, Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP .  Various reporters blog on issues that involve the Supreme Court of the United States. 

Perry, Rory L. II. Syndication and Weblogs: Publish and Distribute Your Court Information to the Web. Office of the Clerk of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia.  Since May 2002, West Virginia has been using weblog software to publish four pages on the Court's Web site. The four pages cover aspects of court information that is routinely handled in the Clerk's Office: new court opinions, granted cases and upcoming dockets, and schedules and notices in high-profile cases.

Hermes, Bruce "Webcasting in the Supreme Court of Texas." Technology Experience Bulletin TEB: 2007-03, Court Information Technology Officers Consortium  (June 2007).  This article about Web casting is intended to give a broad view of Webcast court proceeding implementation issues.

Securing SOA and Web Services for Justice Information Sharing . An IJIS Briefing Paper (2007).  This IJIS Institute white paper is intended to provide practical guidance on a standardsbased approach to building secure Web services applications considering budget, inplace systems, and state-of-the-industry technology constraints.

Web Services to Integrate the Justice Enterprise. IJIS Institute Briefing Paper  (2007).  Web Services are a set of standards that define how information from each agency application or system is packaged, in what way it can connect to other agency systems, and how it finds a service enabling the transfer to take place.

Wireless Networks

WI-FI Network Services. Office of Information Resource Management, King County, Washington.  The King County Public Access Network (KCPAN) was completed in April 2006 with public wireless service now available

Wireless Public Internet. Phoenix Municipal Court, City of Phoenix, Arizona.  Brochure from the City of Phoenix descibing how to access the filtered wireless Internet service to visitors at various city facilities.

"Smoothstone partners with circuit clerk to provide wireless Internet access in Jefferson County Judicial Center ." Kentucky Court of Justice Press Release  (November 2007).  Smoothstone IP Communications and Jefferson County Circuit Court Clerk announced the availability of free, high-speed, wireless Internet access in key areas within the Jefferson County Judicial Center

Federal Courts

"Pilot Project Will Post Digital Audio Recordings Online." The Third Branch (June 2007).  To enhance transparency of courtroom proceedings, a pilot project has been developed where five federal courts will make digital audio recording available to the public.  The project is called Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER)  

"Payment of Court Fees Via the Internet Grows in Popularity." The Third Branch (November 2006).  This article looks at the implementation of credit card payment mechanisms for the U.S. District Court in Idaho.    

"Web Opens Access in High Profile Case." The Third Branch (September 2006).  Discussing the Moussaoui case in the Eastern District of Virginia, the article profiles the use of technology and allowing easy viewings of orders, opinions, and motions.  Access is not granted to pleadings or orders which are sealed.
