Practice
Area: Other: Electronic
Protection From Abuse Orders.
Date
of Implementation:
1995
Overview:
Electronic Protection
From Abuse Orders allow the court to provide all parties in attendance
with a clearly worded, understandable copy of the court’s order
before they leave the courtroom. The electronic order also allows
instantaneous online access to the order for all persons in the
statewide criminal justice community (law enforcement, prosecution,
and courts).

|
Key
Elements:
-
The orders are completed
immediately, before any party departs the courthouse, and, ideally,
the courtroom.
-
The orders are created online in a
single system so as to reduce any issues with data integrity.
-
Orders are accessible to all
segments of the criminal justice community upon entry, eliminating
time-consuming downloads.
-
The court has practices, rules, and
procedures that encourage police officers to act with confidence on
electronic data without the presence of a hard copy of a court order.
-
The Family Court, the Delaware Domestic Violence
Coordinating Council, the Judicial Information Center, the Delaware
Justice Information Center, and the Delaware State Police were
instrumental to the development of the program and the computer links
to make the system viable.
Replication: A number
of states have made inquiries. Jurisdiction
is not aware of any specific replications.
Evaluation:
