The use of anonymous juries refers to the practice of the
court withholding information regarding jurors’ identities.
As a matter of routine practice, courts utilizing this technique
withhold the names, addresses, and other identifying information about
jurors and their families from the parties, the counsel, the public, and
the media. The goal of this
practice is to protect juror privacy and to prevent jury tampering.
It can be used in both civil and criminal cases.
