Domestic Relations

BRANCH SUPERVISOR, DOMESTIC RELATIONS:  Family Court, 500 Indiana Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. Duties: Incumbent will assists in managing the operations of the Domestic Relations Branch, which is responsible for the processing of matters involving custody, divorce, adoption, standby-guardianship, and termination of parental rights, relinquishment of parental rights, marriage and visitation. Submits recommendations and procedures to improve the Branch’s overall operation. Instruct staff members on procedures and policies. Monitors work of staff for compliance with section, branch and division standards and goals. Plans work schedules and sequences of operations to assure an even flow and distribution of work, expeditious handling of priority cases and changes in workload, and meeting schedules and deadlines. Identifies and addresses training and development needs of staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration, or a related field, plus four (4) years of experience in a court or family law agency, including one (1) year as a first-level supervisor or lead worker, and three (3) years using a computer system. Equivalent combinations of relevant education may be substituted general experience. Please submit a copy of your most recent performance evaluation with your application. CLERK OF THE COURT: Danville, VA Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. Summary: The Clerk serves as the Chief Administrator of the Court and is responsible for the management and application of court resources. The position maintains authority over financial performance, staffing, budgets, and efficient caseload processing; monitors and performs procedures to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, the needs of the Court, other criminal justice agencies, and the public, consistent with sound management principles. Personnel management consists of supervising five fulltime positions and one 8-hour per week wage position. The Clerk may also be required to perform precourt and postcourt case processing tasks and other tasks connected with the functioning of the office in order to provide timely public service. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred. Substantial experience, or combination of experience and education, required in court, business or office which provides knowledge, skills, abilities in public relations, recruitment/personnel management and evaluation, individual and group training expertise and advanced ability in word processing software, specifically Microsoft Office. Knowledge of judicial or regulatory requirements that affect court operations desirable. PROBATION OFFICER: Probation Department, Naples, FL. Summary: The probation officers perform professional work in supervising adult defendants who commit misdemeanor and criminal traffic offenses. Additionally, probation officers may supervise juveniles who are sentenced to probation for a criminal traffic offense. Probation officers provide protection for the public by supervising and monitoring defendants placed on probation. Probation supervision includes providing leadership and direction to the probationers. The incumbents exercise independent judgment and initiative within their scope of authority. Work is performed in accordance with Court orders and directives from Judges and is subject to administrative direction. Probation officers complete PSIs as required. Duties: Supervision of County and Circuit Court Misdemeanant Defendants. Monitor Compliance with Court Orders and Prepare Required Documents. Make Recommendations to the Court. Maintain Probation Files. Prepare Pre-sentencing Investigation Reports. Qualifications: Graduation from a accredited four year college or university with major course work in sociology, psychology, criminology, or a related field. Two years of professional experience in a criminal justice system. Knowledge of: Interview techniques; Methods, practices, principles, procedures, and techniques used in interviewing and investigating as it pertains to the operation of the department; Social casework principles and methods; Basic structure of the Florida State Courts System and the criminal justice system; Local, state, and federal guidelines, rules, regulations, and statutes as they pertain to probation and sentencing parameters; Recent developments, literature, and resources in the probation field; Effects of drugs and alcohol; Bilingual in English and Spanish; Social environment of the county and of particular trends and patterns of society; Resources and various programs available and applicable to the specific needs of persons on supervised probation. A valid Florida Driver’s License, with an acceptable driving record, is required. Salary: $34,348.60. (2006)

MAGISTRATE: Seattle, Washington. Duties: Conduct hearings for a variety of traffic, parking and city ordinance violations, and make proposed settlements. Preside over infraction trials as an impartial arbiter between the City of Seattle and the defendant, ruling on the law applying to the facts presented and imposing financial sanctions based on case factors and defendant history. Determine if good cause exists to vacate a default judgment or quash a warrant issued, and review correspondence from defendants wishing to mitigate infractions. The Magistrate also presides over impound release hearings with individuals who have had their vehicles impounded. May provide speeches promoting and explaining court programs at community and school events. May occasionally sit in formal court to hear and rule on criminal cases, both jury and bench trails, in the same manner as elected judges. Qualifications: This position requires an undergraduate degree plus graduation from a law school with a Doctor of Laws Degree (LLD) or Juris Doctorate degree. Must be a member of the Washington State Bar Association in good standing, and have practiced law for at least five years with substantial criminal experience. This position requires knowledge of the following Rules: Washington State Rules of Court; Criminal Rules for Courts of Limited Jurisdiction; Washington State Rules of Court and Justice Court Traffic Infraction Rules; Rules of Evidence; and Infraction Rules for Courts of Limited Jurisdiction. Other required skills include: computer proficiency; the ability to quickly analyze law, apply facts and come to a conclusion; the ability to work accurately and rapidly; the ability to deal with the public in large volume and carry out the organizational objectives of the Seattle Municipal Court. This position works primarily at the Seattle Municipal Court at 600 Fifth Avenue, and may involve some occasional evening work. A criminal background check will be conducted for this position. Salary: $39.60-$46.30 per hour. (2006)

COURT SERVICES SUPERVISOR 2: Tax Court of New Jersey, AOC, Trenton , New Jersey .  Summary: The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to supervise a team in the Tax Court.  Duties: Under the general supervision of the Tax Court Administrator or other Court Executive, individual will lead a team of professional and support staff and oversee the intake, scheduling, disposition and management of Tax Court cases. This individual will be responsible for the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures effecting the ongoing operations of the Tax Court.  Specific duties will include: assigning and monitoring work assignments; instructing team members and chambers staff on work-related matters; training and mentoring team members; documenting standard operating procedures; conducting performance evaluations and mediating conflicts within team; overseeing other personnel actions (hiring, disciplining, promoting and terminating, etc.) and providing input to management.  Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.  Three years of increasingly responsible professional experience, one year of which shall have included experience with case management; specifically development, implementation, analysis, administration or research. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute paraprofessional and professional experience for education on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree may be substituted for one year of experience as indicated above. Salary: $50,326 - $87,377 (2007)

COURT SERVICES OFFICER 2: Tax Court of New Jersey, Trenton, New Jersey. Duties: The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking an individual to serve as a Court Services Officer 2 under the direction of the Tax Court Administrator. The selected individual will be responsible for the management of cases from docketing through disposition, this includes; monitoring cases for compliance with court rules and establishing practice; acting as liaison between the management office and judges chambers to set calendaring and case scheduling priorities through caseload analysis; creating and maintaining credible trial calendars through monitoring cases to ensure compliance with discovery deadlines and case management order and guidelines; responding to inquires from judges, attorneys, and other interested deadlines and case management orders and guidelines; responding to inquires from judges, attorneys, and other interested parties. The Court Services Officer 2 will be responsible for documenting case processing standards, and implementing standards in chambers. In addition, the selected individual will also monitor and evaluate the effects of case processing standards of caseload statistics including clearance, backlog, and time in disposition; and perform other duties as required.  The Court Services Officer 2 will be required to travel to Tax Court chambers in Hackensack, Morristown, Newark and other locations as established in the future to conduct some of the duties of the position. Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree. Two years of experience in case management involving gathering and analyzing case-related information which shall have included the exercise judgment and discretion, reviewing cases to identify case management and discovery needs, coordinating with judges and/or attorneys to resolve case issues, and or/preparing reports of finding and recommendations. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience as indicated above on a year-for-year basis. A master's degree may substituted for one year of experience. Salary: $38,929- $63,141. (2006)

COURT EXECUTIVE 2B (TAX COURT CLERK/ADMINISTRATOR): Tax Court Management Office, AOC, Trenton, NJ. Summary: The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking a manager with strong analytic and communication skills. The Clerk/Administrator of the Tax Court of New Jersey is responsible for managing all staff operations of the Tax Court. Duties: The Clerk oversees all case operations and management for approximately 10,000 cases filed annually and administrative services for the court including facilities, personnel, information technology and budget. The Clerk will be expected to analyze the current case processing methods and recommend efficient workflow systems; recommend strategies for accomplishing goals; effectively manage and develop approximately 20 professional and support staff; directly assist the judges in the performance of non-adjudicative duties; allocate the Tax Court resources and staff in providing excellent support and service to the seven Tax Court judges; and promote quality customer service to attorneys and litigants. The Clerk is also responsible for the distribution of judges’ opinions, actions and remands to the Tax Court. The Clerk is appointed by the Supreme Court and reports to the Presiding Judge of the Tax Court. Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Five years of professional administrative and/or program management experience, three of which shall have included responsibility for program development and/or implementation and for supervision of staff. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year for year basis. A master’s degree may be substituted for one year of experience. A law degree may be substituted for two years of experience as indicated above. Salary: $71,400 - $101,490. (2005)
