Probation Officer
CHIEF PROBABTION OFFICER: Superior Court of California, County of San Francisco. San Francisco, CA. Duties: To establish and maintain effective administrative relationships with supervisors and adult offenders and respondents; plan, organize, assign and administer and review the work of subordinates; effect harmonious working relationships with numerous public and private agencies and individuals engaged in the apprehension, conviction and rehabilitation of adult offenders. Salary: $131,326 - $194, 012 (2009).
CHIEF ADULT PROBABTION OFFICER: Bexar County, TX. Summary: The district and statutory county court judges trying criminal cases in Bexar County are soliciting applications for Chief of the Community Supervision and Corrections Department, responsible for the operation of the county adult probation department and supervision of 400+ employees. Qualifications: Graduate degree preferred in criminology; counseling; social work; psychology; business; public or nonprofit administration; or a closely related field; or a J.D. Significant administrative or managerial experience, with demonstrated leadership in a department or business. All candidates must also meet the eligibility requirements for a community supervision officer as set out in the Texas Government Code. Must successfully pass a background investigation. Salary: $135,000 - $170,000 (2009).
CHIEF PROBATION OFFICER: U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio. Cincinnati, Dayton or Columbus, OH. Summary: The Chief Probation Officer administers and manages the U.S. Probation Office services within the Southern District of Ohio. The Chief Probation Officer is appointed by the judges of the Court and serves under the direction of the Chief Judge. Duties: A Chief Probation Officer performs a variety of duties and responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, the following: Organizes and manages the Probation Office to insure expeditious handling of investigative work for the courts, institutions, and parole authorities to include effective case supervision of probationers and parolees. Reviews, analyzes, and interprets statutory, Judicial Conference and Parole Commission requirements for the administration of probation, supervised release and parole services/promulgates policies, procedures, and guidelines necessary to meet these requirements. Maintains administrative liaison with the court of jurisdiction to include promulgating policies, procedures, and guidelines to meet the unique needs of the court, along with standards to ensure an appropriate level of service delivery. Selects and recommends candidates for appointments as probation officers to the court, and appoints all non-officer personnel; provides specific recommendations to the court in all other personnel matters including promotions, salary increases, disciplinary actions and dismissals; determines that all personnel are carefully selected and adequately trained; makes certain the work of all subordinates is systemically evaluated. Manages the staff including all clerical, professional, supervisory, and administrative personnel, including staff at the division offices; pays particular attention to travel, leave and scheduling of work hours. Establishes and administers continuing in-service training programs to insure high quality service delivery through consistent staff development. Makes estimates of personnel, space allocation, and operating allowance needs; approves requisitions; certifies vouchers for payment; and maintains appropriate fiscal controls in all matters pertaining to travel expenses and purchases of services, equipment, and supplies. Maintains a system of communication, enabling awareness of pertinent information at all levels; delegates decision-making responsibility at appropriate levels; provides qualitative and quantitative measures of work performance; and assures accountability with minimal interference to service delivery. Maintains liaison with the chief judge and other judges, makes specific recommendations, regarding court-related criminal justice issues with particular emphasis on matters relating to sound sentencing practices. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with other probation and pretrial services offices to assure all requests for assistance from other districts are met promptly and effectively. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with all components of the criminal justice system to include federal, state, and local law enforcement, correctional and social service agencies. Promotes and maintains conditions which encourage staff loyalty, enthusiasm, and morale. Develops and maintains a public relations program which explains probation, parole, and other correctional services to the community; assumes responsibility for communication to the news media. Monitors community issues and events with special focus on alleviating hazardous office and field incidents. Occasionally, Chief Probation officers may perform the duties of a probation officer or supervisory probation officer. Performs related duties as required by the Court. Maintains effective liaison with the heads of other court units; i.e. Pretrial Services, Clerk of Court, and Bankruptcy Court. Qualifications: The Chief U.S. Probation Officer requires progressively, more responsible experience in investigation, supervision, counseling and guidance of adult offenders in community correction programs. Qualified applicants must have completed a Master’s degree and must have a minimum of six years specialized experience as a U.S. Probation Officer, with at least one year in community supervision of offenders. To qualify for the position at JSP-14, a person must possess six years of specialized experience, one of which must have been at the next lower grade level or equivalent. To qualify for the position at JSP-15 or JSP-16, a person must possess seven years of specialized experience, one of which must have been at the next lower grade level or its equivalent. Specialized Experience: Three years of substantial management experience is required; which is defined as a high-level administrative experience that provides a thorough understanding of the organizational, procedural and human aspects of managing an organization. Educational Substitutions: Completion of one academic year (30 semester or 45 quarter hours) of graduate study in one of the social sciences may be substituted for one year of the specialized experience; or completion of a master’s degree or two years of graduate study (60 semester or 90 quarter hours) in an accredited university in one of the social sciences or a Juris Doctor (JD) degree may substituted for two years of the specialized experience. PROBATION DIRECTOR/DRUG COURT COORDINATOR: Tri-County Probation & Drug Court. Rexburg, ID. Summary: Performs a variety of professional, managerial and administrative duties as needed to plan, organize, direct and coordinate Drug Court programs and Adult Probation services in Madison, Fremont and Teton counties. Duties: Position requires individual to work under the broad policy guidance of the Tri-County Probation Oversight Committee and Drug Court Governing Board. Provides close to general supervision to Drug Court and Tri-County Probation Officers and department office staff. Plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the operations of the Upper Valley Drug Court and Tri-County Probation programs including adult felony/misdemeanor drug court and adult misdemeanor probation. Works with court administrators, judges, prosecutors, law enforcement personnel and other stake holders to develop and implement programs to meet the needs of clients and insure compliance with court orders and requirements enhancing public safety for the communities served. Develops and implements policy and procedure, work standards for various services and programs; monitors policy effectiveness. Monitors work flow to insure timely management of caseload; conducts staff meetings; evaluates efficiency and effectiveness of Drug Court/Tri-County Probation to maintain quality standards and minimize potential for liability; performs caseload audits; monitors employee work performance for conformity to established rules and procedures and legal requirements; works with employees to resolve issues in connection with unusual or difficult cases; develops and implements training as needed. Makes staffing decisions including recruitment and selection of new employees; provides for orientation and training of new employees; makes work assignments; develops and implements department policies and procedures consistent with Madison County policy and best practices for Probation and Drug Court; evaluates employee work performance and conduct; and, initiates personnel actions related to advancement, promotion, transfer, discipline or discharge. Develops, submits and manages annual budget requests; monitors and approves expenditures in compliance with established fiscal constraints and limitations; researches, evaluates and applies for various grants and other alternative funding; monitors grant expenditures and activities; and, prepares various statistical, financial and other reports as needed to comply with grant requirements. Acts as a local authority on adult misdemeanor probation and drug court issues. Develops and coordinates community resources including criminal justice system, mental health, and drug and alcohol abuse counseling to benefit adult criminal misdemeanor offenders and avoid service overlaps; participates as a technical advisor on citizens’ and advisory boards; provides news releases; functions as a public relations officer and speaks to community groups; identifies and establishes effective working relationships with local employers, organizations and support programs consistent with the goals and objectives of the Drug Court/Tri-County Probation programs; acts as a liaison between various judicial and law enforcement agencies and community resources. Provides administrative oversight and supervision of county transitional housing facility. Responsible for insuring the facility is maintained and conducts frequent inspections of the home. Insures housing policies are met by residents. Maintains compliance with local zoning and housing regulations. Qualifications: Graduation from college with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, criminology or related fields; AND/OR five years of progressively responsible experience performing above or similar duties; two years of which must have been in a supervisory or lead capacity; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. AND Madison County will accord a preference to employment of veterans of the U.S. Armed Services in accord with provisions of Idaho Code § 65-502. AND Qualified individuals who are already employees of Madison County maybe given preference over outside applicants to fill vacancies in the workforce. CHIEF OF PROBATION: City-Parish of Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge, LA. Summary: Plans, directs, coordinates and supervises staff of supervisors, probation officers and clerical support staff engaged in intake, casework and probation activities, drug lab and home incarceration program. Work involves the use of considerable independent judgment within established policies and guidelines. Duties: Directs, coordinates and implements overall work performance for probation; initiates work routines, procedures and methods for efficient division operation. Formulates and writes policies and procedures affecting the probation and intake programs. Plans, directs, organizes, and supervises casework activities, clerical support staff activities, and intake activities. Attends staff meetings with the Clerk of City Court/Judicial Administrator and judges. Explores the community for resources available for treatment and rehabilitative services for offenders; develops rehabilitative programs to provide alternative sentences to imprisonment. Serves as liaison and coordinates probation division activities with public agencies, inter-department divisions, other departments and the general public. Analyzes, prepares and distributes division statistical reports. Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, corrections, law, social work, psychology or similar field, supplemented by five years experience in professional probation work and three years experience at a supervisory level, or a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, or a related field, supplemented by four years experience in professional level probation work, three years experience at a supervisory level, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Must possess a Bachelor’s or Masters degree (Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Psychology or Sociology preferred). Skill in the use of modern office equipment and in the use of standard computer applications. Knowledge of modern drug screening and home incarceration, practices and programs. Knowledge of current social rehabilitation program and practices, extensive knowledge of substance abuse and domestic violence rehabilitation principles. Knowledge of human behavior and adult psychology as related to the supervision and rehabilitation of the adult criminal offender. Knowledge of the principles of supervision. Knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations affecting the operation of the probation division. Knowledge of computer assisted, database record keeping. CHIEF PROBATION OFFICER: Kings County, Hanford, CA. Summary: Under the policy direction of the Board of Supervisors and administrative direction of the County Administrative Office, plan, organizes, administers and evaluates the programs and services of the Probation Department’ and performs related work as required. Duties: The Chief Probation Officer is the administrative head of the Probation Departments. The incumbent provides oversight of and direction to the various divisions and organizational units of the department, within state and federal legal requirements and regulations and County ordinances, policies and procedural guidelines. Areas of responsibility include: providing leadership and long-range strategic and program planning; developing and implementing department policies, goals and objectives; overseeing the administration of personnel selection, evaluation, training and disciplinary practices and policies of the department; and administering the department’s budget and maintaining effective fiscal controls. Qualifications: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major work in criminal justice or a closely related field. Five years of increasingly responsible experience in probation work, including at least two years in a management or supervisory capacity. Salary: $51.92 - $67.50 hourly, $9,000 - $11,700 monthly. CHIEF PROBATION OFFICER: County of Imperial, El Centro, CA. Summary: Duties: Pursuant to Penal Code Section 1203.6, the Chief Probation Officer is appointed by the presiding judge of the Juvenile Court and the presiding Judge of the Superior Court. In addition, the Chief Probation Officer will work with the Board of Supervisors and the County Executive Officer on budget matters, and implement administrative policies and procedures established by the Board of Supervisors consistent with operational policy guidelines and strategic plans established by the Superior Court. Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree in criminology, criminal justice, sociology, psychology, public or business administration, or a closely related field; and, progressively responsible administrative experience in probation, parole services, and/or corrections, including at least five (5) years at a management level. Persons appointed to this position will be required to successfully complete forty (40) hours of State mandated training during the first year of employment and forty (40) hours every year thereafter. The Chief Probation Officer is a Peace Officer and must meet the standards specified in Sections 1029 and 1031, of the California Government Code. Pursuant to Code, must: Possess a valid California Driver’s License; not be a convicted felon; and, be a U.S. citizen, or a permanent resident alien who has applied for citizenship. Prior to appointment, applicants must submit to a background check, fingerprinting, and physical and psychological examinations to determine whether they meet Peace Officer standards for the position. operations of the probation and intake functions for the eighth
district. Oversees evaluation, development, and implementation
of services and programs. Duties:
Directs operations and provides leadership for
probation/intake staff and services; establishes procedures and
standards for compliance with legal requirements; evaluates and
recommends changes in programs, policies and procedures, and
operations; monitors work flow, case processing and workload;
participates as a member of the district management team in
evaluating, planning and implementing programs; maintains
liaison in coordinating activities with judges and the clerk of
court. represents district in various interagency activities;
i.e., law enforcement, education, human services, local
communities and other public agencies and organizations; acts as
probation liaison, projects required staffing levels; assists
the court executive with budget preparation and monitoring;
participates as member of statewide committees, task forces etc.

the general direction of the Court Executive 2B (Vicinage Chief
Probation Officer), the selected individual will interact with
all levels of management and participate in departmental
meetings, partnership meetings and on task forces. The selected
individual will also evaluate the performance of staff;
mentor/coach staff, provide direction and feedback; participate
in team or work unit meetings; suggest improvements in work unit
operation; recommend changes to organizational structure or work

JUVENILE PROBATION OFFICER: The
Juvenile Probation Department, Superior Court of
Arizona in Maricopa County. Summary: The position directs the day-to-day
operations of the Maricopa County Juvenile
Probation Department and its provision of
diversion, probation, detention, and other
delinquency related services. This position works under the general
policy direction of the Presiding Judge and
Juvenile Court Presiding Judge, and the
immediate supervision of the Trial Courts
Administrator. Duties:
