Assistance Specialist: Justice Program

This
is a full-time, professional position requiring specialized
knowledge of criminal justice system operations and interagency
dynamics. This position reports to the Principal Investigator of
the project to which he or she is assigned. Duties:
The principal duties of this position include: (1) planning,
coordinating, and evaluating the delivery of technical
assistance and training services (e.g., the conduct of
workshops, conferences and focus groups, the performance of
on-site management consulting studies, etc.) by project staff
and consultants (including self) to state/local courts and
criminal justice agencies; (2) providing research and analytical
support to BJA in its Congressional reporting activities; and
(3) maintaining liaison with and collecting and analyzing
performance data on approximately 100 national organizations
that provide training or technical assistance services with BJA
funds. Qualifications: Education:
Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree in
criminal justice administration or related field highly desired.
Work History: Incumbent must have at least two years’
experience working in a criminal justice agency or
community-based organization in a professional capacity. Other
qualifications include: excellent communication skills, written
and oral; ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently and
adhere to strict deadlines; attention to detail; demonstrated
research and analytical skills; and proficiency in Microsoft
office, and with relational database software. Familiarity with
use of SPSS is desirable, as is prior experience working in U.S.
Department of Justice-sponsored programs. Salary:

Reno, NV. Duties: Under the supervision of Department
management, performs all aspects of editing and producing
Department publications, articles, reports, and grant
applications; serves as liaison to NCJFCJ Manager of
Communications to produce Juvenile
and Family Justice TODAY Magazine, special Journal
issues related to Department subject matter, ensure
adherence to publishing guidelines, and work on cooperative
projects; acts as liaison to typesetters and printing agencies
for production of Department materials. Works closely with all

of Mississippi

Center. Summary: The
University of Mississippi Law Center is seeking nominations and
applications for the position of Director of the Mississippi
Judicial
College. The Mississippi Judicial College (MJC) is a specially funded
division of the Law
Center. It provides training and continuing education for persons
affiliated with Mississippi’s judicial system including trial
and appellate judges, county court judges, municipal court
judges, justice court judges, court administrators, chancery
court clerks, public defenders, and court reporters. Annually,
over 2,000 men and women attend the training and continuing
legal education programs administered throughout the state by
the MJC. Qualifications: Candidates
must possess a J.D. degree from an ABA-approved institution or
Masters in education or related field. Candidates’ experience
and accomplishments must demonstrate administrative and
leadership ability and the capacity to deal effectively with
judges, lawyers, legislators, and other persons affiliated with
the Mississippi

Under the general direction of the
Director of Bibliographic Services, the Catalog Librarian is
responsible for cataloging library materials, including
continuing resources in both print and electronic formats. The
Catalog Librarian also co-supervises two library specialists
with the Government Documents Librarian. Duties: Providing
full (or other appropriate level) original cataloging and
authority control in a variety of print, non-print and digital
formats in a variety of subject areas; supervising all
serials-related projects; contributing to planning, policy and
procedure development of department; performing other duties to
enhance the collection and services of the library such as (but
not limited to): assisting in the development, implementation,
and evaluation of cataloging and bibliographic service policies,
procedures, and publications based on current information and
developments in the field/literature; responding to telephone,

TEACHING
LIBRARIAN: The
Florida Coastal School of Law Library. Summary: The
Teaching Librarian reports to the Head of Public and
Instructional Services. The Teaching Librarian leads the
development and maintenance of the library’s legal research
instruction program and is primarily responsible for its
implementation. The Teaching Librarian is part of the
Reference staff and works with the other reference librarians in
providing service and support to the student body. Duties: Work
with the legal research and writing instructors to develop the
legal research module of that program, work
with faculty in support of scholarly research and class
instruction. This includes developing and providing class
research modules, and creating documentation (handouts,
bibliographies, pathfinders, etc.), develop
and present formal and informal library instruction for full
range of available resources, participate
in rotation at the Library’s Reference
Desk, including some evenings and weekends, assist
patrons in the evaluation and use of print, electronic,
microform, and other resources, participate
in collection development, keep
current on developments in information technology that could be
used to improve library reference and instructional services, perform
other duties as assigned. Qualifications: MLS
and JD, 5 years of experience in formal legal research
instruction, strong service
orientation and ability to work well with others in a team
atmosphere, enthusiasm,
flexibility, and a positive attitude, excellent
oral and written communication skills, detailed

Volunteers
VOLUNTEER TRANSLATOR: inMotion:
Justice for All Women, New York City. Duties The
student/volunteer will translate or review a translation of a
pro se law library into various languages used throughout New York City
--the student/volunteer may translate as many booklets as he/she
wants. The pro se library addresses the limited availability of
representation for an increasing number of women who cannot
afford legal assistance. The Library consists of 11 booklets
that cover the following subject matters: Paternity Proceedings,
Adoption, Custody and Visitation, Guardianship, Divorce, Spousal
Support, Child Support, Orders of Protection, Domestic Violence
and Immigrant Women, Social Security Number and Name Changes,
and New York City Courts. It is our hope that the library will
be translated into numerous languages so that they can be used
by pro se litigants, volunteer attorneys and community
organizations who deal with clients whose first language is not
English. Students/volunteers who can do written translations
into Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese, German, Hindi, Japanese,
Korean, Polish, Russian, Serbian, Turkish, Urdu, and Yiddish are
needed. Speakers of other languages not listed here are

LEGAL ASSISTANCE FOR WOMEN VOLUNTEER: Chrysalis
(Center for Women and Girls), Limited Legal Services Clinic
& Representation. Summary:
The
Legal Assistance for Women (LAW) Program volunteer assists
volunteer attorneys in: Providing pro se assistance and other
limited legal services to low-income women in family law matters
at Limited Legal Services Clinics and follow-up services
off-site; and Providing pro bono legal representation in family
law cases to low-income women screened by Chrysalis.
LAW Program Volunteer
Attorneys are supervised by the Chrysalis Family Law Attorney
and the volunteer attorney whom they are assisting. Duties:
Attend 12-hour training program provided by
Chrysalis. Attend volunteer
orientation and observe trained volunteers at a “buddy
shift” for the Limited Legal Services Clinic. Assist at Limited Legal
Services Clinic by interviewing clients, helping clients
organize documents and gather information, drafting documents
for review by attorney, and providing referrals. Assist volunteer attorneys with Pro Bono Family
Law Representation by helping clients organize documents and
gather information, drafting documents for review by attorney,
and researching legal issues. Complete paperwork related to Limited Legal
Services Clinic and report the number of hours volunteered
off-site. Honor volunteer commitments. Notify LAW Program
staff in advance of any schedule conflict, absence, and change
in contact information. Qualifications:

in family law issues. Law student or
paralegal (preference given to 2nd or 3rd year law students and
