RESEARCH ATTORNEY: Superior Court of California, County of Humboldt. Summary: Under general direction, this professional level position performs legal research activities on behalf of the Court by examining, analyzing, and interpreting available information and submitting recommendations for resolving issues before the Court. LEGAL SPECIALIST: United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Judicial Circuit. New Orleans, LA. Summary: Authorized by Chief Judge Jones, the Appellate Conference Attorney invites applications from qualified persons for the position of Legal Specialist. The Legal Specialist works under the supervision of the Senior Conference Attorney and closely with the other conference attorneys and staff. This position also requires regular interaction with judges, court staff, attorneys, and personnel of the Administrative Office of U.S. Courts. The duties of this position fall into three categories: 1) Support of the operations of the mediation service of the Court of Appeals. 2) Processing for payment vouchers submitted by attorneys appointed to represent indigent criminal defendants under the Criminal Justice Act (CJA). 3) Coordination of office management for a court unit whose other employees are attorneys or law graduates. SURPREME COURT COMMISSSIONER: Minnesota Supreme Court. St. Paul, MN. Summary: The Minnesota Supreme Court is seeking a Supreme Court Commissioner. This highly responsible legal, administrative and managerial position serves as counsel to the Minnesota Supreme Court and provides legal research, advice, and memoranda recommending dispositions in a wide variety of civil and criminal legal cases that come before the court. This position supervises a staff of senior level attorneys and a small clerical staff. This position is selected by and serves at the pleasure of the chief justice and associate justices of the Minnesota Supreme Court. Duties: Acts as staff counsel to the Chief Justice and the Justices of the Supreme Court. Evaluates petitions for review coming before the Supreme Court. FAMILY LAW FACILITATOR: Superior Court of California, County of Humboldt. Eureka, CA. Summary: Under the direction of the Court Executive Officer, the incumbent is responsible for all the work undertaken by the Family Law Facilitator’s Office and the Self Help Center. The Family Law Facilitator provides services mandated by Family Code 10000-10012 which includes the development, planning, implementation and administration of a family law program providing services to litigants unrepresented by counsel to facilitate and expedite family law proceedings related to Child Support, Spousal Support, Guardianship and health insurance matters. The Family Law Facilitator is also the staff attorney for the Self-Help Center who facilitates and expedites proceedings related to dissolution, legal separation, nullity, parentage, child custody and visitation, property division, step-parent adoption, domestic violence restraining orders, probate guardianships, and answers to limited civil actions, unlawful detainers, small claims and conservatorships. This position also recommends, develops, implements and coordinates all aspects of the Court’s public access and outreach efforts. MANAGING ATTORNEY: Office of Court Administration, Montgomery County. Conroe, TX. Summary: To provide legal services in support of a managed assisted counsel office that will provide representation in court for Montgomery County indigent defendants with documented mental illness. Duties: 1. The managing attorney will be responsible for hiring and supervising the following staff: A. An administrative assistant to assist in documenting the program and the managed assigned counsel wheel activities. 2. The Managing Attorney will be responsible for coordinating with tri-county services the contractual hiring and supervision of the following staff: A. A licensed clinician who will provide mental health assessments and in-jail eservices to indigent mentally ill defendants who are not eligible for bond, and B. A maximum of two caseworkers and a maximum of two field workers who will provide mental health case management services to indigent mentally ill defendants who are eligible for bond. 3. Collaborating with jail staff to insure access to clients, both for mental health in-jail services and for video conferencing with attorneys. 4. Collaborating with tri-county services concerning field case work and video conferencing from the psychiatric emergency treatment center. 5. Developing criteria and caseload standards for private attorneys to serve as attorneys of record for those individuals who qualify for services under the Fair Defense Act (caseload standards must use standards used by other states and nationally recognized standards.) 6. Managing a “wheel” for the selected attorneys (minimum of 12 attorneys). 7. Providing training to the selected attorneys and other interested attorneys. 8. Collaborate with tri-county services to develop a curriculum for training attorneys. 9. STAFF ATTORNEY 1: Family Law Facilitator, Self-Help Center Attorney, Superior Court of the State of California, County of Kings. Hanford, CA. Summary: This is a Family Law Facilitator / Self Help Center Attorney position under the general direction of the Presiding Judge or Court Executive Officer. This professional level position is responsible for the oversight and day-to-day operation of programs providing legal services to litigants not represented by counsel. The incumbent is responsible for all the work undertaken by the Family Law Facilitator’s Office and the Self Help Center. This is a Full-time position that prohibits private practice during the incumbent’s tenure due to the nature and responsibility of this specific assignment. As the Staff Attorney for the Self-Help Center, the incumbent facilitates and expedites proceedings related to dissolution, legal separation, nullity, parentage, child custody and visitation, property division, step-parent adoption, domestic violence restraining orders, probate guardianships, and answers to limited civil actions, unlawful detainers, small claims, and conservatorships. The incumbent also recommends, develops, implements and coordinates all aspects of the Court’s public access and outreach efforts. Duties: Develop, plan, implement and administer a Family Law Facilitator Program pursuant to Family Code Section 10000 et seq. Responsible for the overall development, planning, implementation and administration of programs designed to provide support services to self represented litigants in various areas of family law (including guardianship and step-parent adoption) and (to a lesser extent) in limited civil actions. Duties: Felony Unit: Prepare a wide variety of criminal cases for prosecution. Summary: The incumbent will serve as chief of the ODS Program Operations and Assessment Branch (POAB). POAB’s central operations, and resource utilization of Federal defender organizations and panel attorney programs. ASSISTANT LEGAL COUNSEL: Oregon Judicial Department, Legal Counsel Division, Office of the State Court Administrator. Salem, OR. Summary: The incumbent in this position will provide general contractual expertise, statewide legal advice, policy development and analysis to top Judicial Branch officials and managers, including the State Court Administrator, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, appellate and trial court judges, OSCA division directors, trial court administrators, and other Judicial Branch committees and employees, and to direct implementation of OJD policies and programs. CHIEF DISCIPLIANRY COUNSEL: Disciplinary Board, Supreme Court of the State of New Mexico. Albuquerque, NM. Summary: The position of Chief Disciplinary Counsel is a highly responsible litigation and management position. The work includes directing and supervising the day to day operations of the Office of Disciplinary Counsel which is responsible for the disciplinary system in New Mexico consistent with New Mexico Supreme Court rules and Disciplinary Board policy. Chief Counsel is responsible for the hiring and supervision of attorneys and other staff in the office and for preparing and implementing the budget of the Disciplinary Board. Summary: The Attorney Programs/Jury Specialist provides a wide variety of administrative support services and acts as a liaison between the bench and the bar for the Court’s attorney programs. Additionally, the incumbent assists with managing the overall jury system and ensuring its efficient operation. The incumbent performs a variety of duties related to the selection, qualification, summonsing, orientation, management, and payment of jurors. STAFF ATTORNEY: Superior Court of Arizona, Maricopa County. Summary: This position represents juveniles in Status Offender Court on a specialty calendar at each Juvenile Court Facility (one Commissioner assigned at each facility on different days). The Juvenile Court Status Offense Program provides representation for juveniles alleged to have committed status offenses during delinquency hearings, including the advisory (initial appearance), adjudication (trial), disposition (sentencing) and mental competency (assessment of ability of juvenile to understand the proceedings and participate in their own defense) hearings.
