INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST: Database and Web Developer, IT, District of Columbia Courts. Duties: The position would be part of the database and web development group and would perform duties as follows: Develop, maintain and enhance new or existing web-based database systems; consult with senior staff in defining requirements for and determining the optimal configuration of new or enhanced web-based database systems; administer installation and implementation of new systems ensuring interoperability and integration within the existing internet and intranet infrastructure; recommend adoption and application of new and innovative approaches to the delivery of database systems to enhance effectiveness of the program; implement quality management practices designed to facilitate continuous improvement in assigned work practices; troubleshoot and perform technical support to multiple client-server or web-based applications within the Court; and assess the impact of new legislation and policies, changing program and business requirements, shifts in resource availability, emerging technology, and other developments on assigned activities.  Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or other related field. Six years of experience in information technology including a minimum of four (4) years in database-based Java programming and two (2) years in J2EE full lifecycle development. Prior experience working with Oracle databases and PL/SQL preferred. Prior experience building applications in Struts framework is desired. Experience with Oracle Toplink and Discoverer is a plus. Prior experience with Rational Suite is a plus. Salary: $86,927-$113,007. (2009)

ORACLE DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR: Arkansas Supreme Court, Court Information Systems Division, Little Rock, AR. Summary: The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) is seeking a well-rounded IT professional with significant Oracle database administration experience who is also willing and able to work with the IT team in other software and hardware support duties.  Duties: Maintain/tune/develop Oracle database applications. Install/test software updates. Assist programmer with legacy system integration and data conversions. Assist network administrator in maintaining system applications. Assist in user pc and application support as needed. Work with IT team in planning and budgeting. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: The formal education of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent, and two years in an Oracle database administration role is required, and significant experience in user application support is highly desired.   Relevant experience may be substituted for education.  Applicants must demonstrate skill in oral and written communication, and dedication to public service.  2+ years of database administration using Oracle databases.  Salary: $60,000 - $75,000 (2007)

DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR: Annapolis, Maryland. Summary: Sets up and maintains mission critical servers and backups for District Court locations statewide. Duties: Develops conceptual and logical data models for new systems and coverts logical models to physical models selecting appropriate levels of normalization. Assists and supports application programmers including building and maintaining the proper data structures required by applications. Works with application team to ensure that proper methods are used to embed data access.  Works with application team to minimize deployment and maintenance costs. Codes PL/SQL stored procedures, triggers, packages, procedures, and functions. Codes middle tier CORBA applications for n-tiered distributed systems. Maintains source code version control for all production applications. Skills/Abilities: Extensive knowledge of court business and functions. Knowledge of the principles and practices of information systems planning, analysis, design, programming, budgeting, operations and maintenance. Knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle, Access, PL/SQL, SQL, ER diagrams; middle tier architectures such as J2EE/Struts, CORBA; networking technologies such as TCP/IP, Oracle networking, Novell; data access technologies such as JDBC, ADO, ODBC, dbExpress; programming languages such as C++, Java; and operating systems such as Windows 2000/2003, UNIX (AIX, Linux). Ability to adapt to changing complex information technology principles, theories, and solutions. Ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, users, software vendors and consultants. Ability to perform all essential functions of the position. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field. Five years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining databases, plus two years of experience as a database administrator. Equivalent additional years of experience relevant to position duties and requirements may be substituted for degree. Salary: $57,000-$84,000. (2006)

Telecommunications Engineer

TELECOMMUNICATIONS ENGINEER: Duties: Under direction, provides engineering and technical telecommunications support for state-wide LAN, WAN and frame relay systems. Designs, plans, configures, implements, controls, monitors and maintains a multi-user, multi-site network in a client server environment. Seeks innovative and state-of-the-art solutions to develop the highest level of responsiveness, production and functionality from the network infrastructure investment. Work performed: Manages a multi-site telecommunications environment to provide network connectivity and stability for court operations and the case management application. Monitors the network for errors that are transparent to users. Resolves problems with the network, including routers, frame relay and modem connection. Orders, or oversees the ordering of, all the hardware and vendor service. Develops technical documentation to incorporate configurations for capacity planning and budget submissions. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, telecommunications, computer science or a related field and six years of general experience in network administration and telecommunications support activities in a multi-user, multi-site environment as a network administrator or network manager.
