NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR (senior level): (General Description) Duties: Under general direction, controls, monitors and maintains servers and telecommunications devices including resolving system problems. Work performed: Ensures availability of servers and the network to support operational needs of the judiciary. Analyzes hardware and software for acquisition and applies fixes to network servers. Analyzes system failures and executes procedures to restore operations. Monitors server and network performance and anticipates needed changes to optimize performance. Designs and tests configurations necessary for new applications, new technology or enhanced performance. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree is computer science, system or software engineering or related technical field and six years of experience in systems design and administration, network administration or support activities in a multi-user environment. Requires thorough knowledge of operating systems and network protocols being used in the judiciary; C programming language; systems and network architecture and design; and the interdependence of software and hardware operating in a multi-site, multi-network and multi-user data processing environment. (2006)

SENIOR NETWORK ANALYST: Administrative Office of the Courts. Olympia, WA. Summary: Performs system support of the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) computers and network operations for the Administrative Office of the Courts Judicial Information Systems.  Reports to an Information Services Division (ISD) Manager and is responsible for performing work with the appropriate degree of expertise and skill in a proficient, qualified and specialized role. Work is expected to be performed with expert level skills as defined within the essential functions for this position. Work at the senior level is performed independently with decision making responsibility commensurate with the technical expertise required of the position. Work products are expected to be of the highest quality and utilized to review and evaluate the technical work products of lower level system support analysts. Duties: Works as a lead member of the ISD Network Unit. Provides primary support for network design, network performance and availability monitoring, network routers and switches, and the AOC campus network wiring. Creates and updates network configuration documentation. Leads and coordinates Disaster Recovery efforts for the ISD Network Unit. Works closely with server and desktop staff planning and preparing for disaster recovery efforts. Works with other state agencies and current and potential AOC clients on network design and requirements. Responds to inquiries from staff, administrators, service providers, site personnel, outside vendors, and others to provide technical assistance and support. Performs other work as assigned. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ANALYST I: Information Technology Office, Administrative Office of the Courts. Trenton, NJ. Summary: The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking an individual who will work in our wide area network environment supporting over 600 locations throughout New Jersey, with the opportunity to work with, but not limited to the following: Frame Relay, ISDN, Tier 1 Internet Connectivity, Inter-Agency Connectivity, QOS, Ciscoworks, TCP/IP, ATM, DSL, Fiber Optics, Cisco routing and switching, Multi-casting, HP Openview, Sniffer, Ethernet Services, Broadband Wireless, WAN Optimization, EIGRP, Netscout PM, Windows Server 2009, NAT/PAT. NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR: Colorado Judicial Branch. Denver, CO. Summary: The Network Administrator oversees and directs all phases related to multiple, complex and diverse network systems projects, acts as designated project leader or manager in charge of network systems, and monitors functions of network systems internal and external to the Colorado Judicial Branch to ensure appropriate levels of operations.  In addition, this position preserves warranty and maintenance contracts on all network related hardware/software and circuits, among many other duties. Duties: Oversees and directs all phases related to multiple, complex and diverse network systems projects. Acts as designated project leader or manager in charge of network systems. Monitors functions of network systems internal and external to the Colorado Judicial Branch to ensure appropriate levels of operations. Preserves warranty and maintenance contracts on all network related hardware/software and circuits. Maintains proper licensing for all software/network/hardware that support the Judicial telecommunications network (e.g., routers, switches, hubs, special appliances, etc). Sustains a sufficient inventory of replacement hardware for emergency situations. Designs and maintains cabling in existing facilities and planning for cabling in new facilities. Responsible for all VOIP development and maintenance. Provides weekly estimates future metrics will help determine circuit/hardware life cycles. Designs and implements all security related functions for the Judicial Branch telecommunications network. This includes user ID and password control, backup systems and procedures, maintenance of firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus updates, routers and disaster recovery plans and tests,   Conducts a disaster recovery test will at least once a year. Designs and is responsible for all network redundancies as permitted by budgetary considerations, a secure connectivity to the Internet and limit access to the Internet based on the Branch’s various policies, and for all remote connections to the network and related security (e.g., through use of VPN). Identifies when circuits/hardware are reaching capacity. Reports on network performance metrics that will help identify any circuit/hardware problems and on various security related metrics that are to be reported to the Supervisor of Technical Services and the CIO weekly. Researches and makes recommendations regarding the acquisition of new telecommunication hardware and software. Acts as resource to internal IIS staff, judicial districts and external consultant to other state agencies, the Statewide MNT and/or other organizational units. This position shares responsibilities with the System Administrators in a variety of different areas, including but not limited to: e-mail and the Exchange server; digital sound recorders, and video applications. Coordinates security issues with the Information System Security Officer. Attends meetings as required. Performs other duties as assigned. NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR: Detroit, MI. Summary: The Network Administrator is responsible for the administration and maintenance of production servers, active directory, e-mail service, anti-virus servers and network server backups. The incumbent also assists IT team members with user and application support. Duties: managing and administering the day-to-day operations of the Court’s LAN; installing and upgrading LAN software and virus protections; maintaining and monitoring performance; verifying and logging server backups; coordinating features and functions of the network with members of the IT staff to facilitate application and desktop operations; planning, installing, configuring, and testing new LAN hardware and peripherals; coordinating the installations, modifications, and upgrades to equipment and cabling; developing and maintaining IT Department plans, procedures, and technical documentation for LAN/WAN network processes, configurations, software, and hardware. Qualifications: This position requires at least two years of specialized work experience in the IT field including at least one year equivalent to the federal government grade level of GS/JS 09 or CL25. Specialized experience includes work designing, implementing, upgrading or maintaining IT networks and completion of projects involving network analysis, configuration, integration and troubleshooting. SERVER ADMINISTRATOR – WINDOWS BASED: Colorado Judicial Branch. Denver, CO. Summary: This position manages the activities and operations required to maintain the Colorado Judicial Branch’s primary Windows-based servers.  Work involves developing project plans, processes and procedures to implement and achieve systems and programming objectives.  This position has independent judgment and decision making authority. Duties: Acts as designated work leader or manager in charge of Windows based servers. Designs and implements all security related functions for Windows based servers. This includes user ID and password control, backup systems and procedures, and disaster recovery plans and tests. A disaster recovery test will be conducted at least once a year on all Windows based servers. Responsible for designing logging and audit reports that can track activity on the Windows based servers, most especially the adding, changing and deleting of data. Responsible for data replication and developing reporting metrics which indicate that host and target systems are in sync. These metrics will be submitted to the Supervisor of Technical Services and the CIO. Designs and reports on various other security related metrics that are to be reported to the Supervisor of Technical Services and the CIO weekly. Designs and implements change control procedures on Windows based servers with the approval of the Supervisor of Technical Services and the CIO. Among other things, this involves coordinating software application moves among the programming staff and the information system specialists. Plans for, installs and maintains the Windows based servers. This includes original installations, upgrades and replacement installations. Responsible for maintaining warranty and maintenance contracts on all related hardware/software that reside on Windows based servers. Monitors functions of Windows based servers internal and external to the Colorado Judicial Branch to ensure appropriate levels of operations. Designs and reports on Windows based servers’ performance metrics that will help identify any system problems, and identify when systems are reaching capacity. Estimating future metrics will help determine system life cycles. These reports will be delivered to the Supervisor of Technical Services and the CIO weekly. Researches and makes recommendations regarding the acquisition of new Windows based servers. COURT TECHNOLOGY NETWORK ENGINEER: Second  Judicial District Court, Washoe County, Nevada. Reno, NV. Summary: Under general supervision, performs advanced professional work planning, organizing, and overseeing the installation and implementation of information technology and data communication networks for assigned projects; serves as a project manager and team leader for various projects, primarily in network analysis, security, planning, and design. Duties: Manages projects, which involves the maintenance and upgrading of existing enterprise level file servers and peripherals, including coordinating with appropriate staff, establishing time frames, monitoring progress, and providing project documentation for new systems. Establishes security policies and manages various aspects of Internet security and network security, and advises management on various security-related issues; installs new security applications and procedures; monitors and audits computer network activity to prevent security attacks and intrusions. Designs new systems, writes specifications, and prepares estimates of equipment and resources required for projects; provides consultation to management and departmental staff. Translates designs to schematic diagrams for use by service technicians in network installation; assesses potential network equipment and software for performance, reliability, maintenance problems, cost, ease of use, and user satisfaction. Coordinates with local area vendors to implement the installation of proprietary equipment. Prepares reports and makes presentations of product findings, which include recommendations for purchase. Interviews users to collect information about problems; leads users through diagnostic procedures to determine source of error and possible causes and solutions; handles problem recognition, research, isolation, resolution, and follow-up for routine and complex user problems. Uses complex software diagnostics to determine errors in computer memory, video monitors, wireless adapters, network communication systems, and identify maintenance needs. Identifies and removes desktop viruses, spyware, and other non-compliant software to maintain a secure network environment. Assists with the assembly and testing of personal computers and file servers including the supported software applications upon arrival from vendors. Install, maintain, configure, and support desktop network connectivity including network client software, Exchange e-mail system, and remove client software, create and maintain network users, groups, rights, login scripts, and network printer configurations; create, modify and delete user accounts, groups, resources, membership rights and security access for electronic mail and/or messaging systems at Court locations. Perform routine diagnostics, following instructions to determine memory errors, disk storage errors, software errors and network communication errors. CITRIX NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR: United States Bankruptcy Court, District of Arizona. Phoenix, AZ. Summary: The selected individual will be responsible for the data communications and network infrastructure, including server, workstation, routers/hubs/switches, and cabling. The incumbent will assist the clerk’s office, the judges, and judge’s staff in troubleshooting network related issues, supporting office automation equipment and software, and provide technical recommendations to management. Duties: The Citrix Network Administrator performs a full-range of network (LAN/WAN) and workstation administration activities, as well as provides technical support to the Divisional Offices. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: coordinate and link computer systems within the organization to maximize performance and security of court data and resources, determine computer software and hardware needed to set up or alter systems and application of patches and other upgrades. Diagnose hardware and software problems, and replace defective components. Maintain and administer computer network and related computing environments, including computer hardware, systems software, and all configurations. Recommend changes to improve systems and configuration, as well as determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes. Maintain network security and remote access to applications via Citrix XenApp. Develop and implement short-term and long-range automation improvement plans for the court, ensuring that the changes can be implemented with minimal disruption at the court site. Perform data backups. Plan for and implement disaster recovery operations and testing. Monitor and implement changes related network performance, security, anti virus, intrusion, web usage/monitoring, design and acquisition of servers. Produce useful system documentation, and perform system startup and shutdown procedures, and maintain control records. Recommend, schedule, plan, and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems. SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR: Superior Court of California, County of Riverside. Summary: Under general direction, provides complex and highly responsible professional support in administering assigned servers, platforms, networks and network enterprise applications and devices. Duties: Incumbents typically carry out system administration functions independently, with a sound understanding of the interactions between hardware, operating system software and network operations and the design and administrative requirements to ensure an efficient, reliable, secure infrastructure. Incumbents are expected to bring projects to conclusion, including development of operating procedures, instruction and training, and required documentation. Work is performed and technical decisions made with some latitude for independent judgment. Incumbents are expected to have in-depth technical knowledge and skill to lead or mentor others. NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR: Supreme Court of Ohio. Columbus, OH. Summary: The Supreme Court of Ohio is seeking applicants for the position of Network Administrator. This position is responsible for installing and supporting the Court's LAN, end users, network segment, Internet and Intranet systems and software applications. Duties: The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned. The employee will staff the Court's help desk and respond to requests for assistance and network problems, either by phone or in person.  They will provide assistance in creating basic applications using standard desktop software (e.g. spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and presentations), work with users, design templates, databases, and the like. Responsibilities will also include configuring and coordinating the installation of computers, printers, peripherals, and other hardware and software as directed; ensuring that new users are connected to the network; maintaining records on hardware, software, and network assignments for the department; and installing and maintaining desktop and specialized software applications. The Network Administrator will assist the Senior Network Administrators in supporting and implementing LAN/WAN environment technologies and assist other IT staff in developing both technical and non-technical procedures; assist in monitoring, maintaining and troubleshooting data communications for local users, including Cisco switches and wireless access points; administer and maintain data communications for remote user connectivity, including VPN, dial-up, and web email. Qualifications: This position requires completion of undergraduate core coursework in computer science or information technology; one year training or one year of experience in computer network administration to include understanding of operating systems & networking technologies, and 1 course or 3 months experience in computer networking. PRINCIPLE NETWORK SPECIALIST: Superior Court of California, Marin County. Summary: Under direction, provides technical support and administration of the Court’s Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN); provides work direction to others engaged in similar tasks; and performs related work as required. Duties: Installs and maintains within specifications local area networks (LAN), wide area network (WAN), systems network architecture (SNA), voice and data telecommunications systems and related hardware, including fiber optic cabling. Analyzes, diagnoses and corrects problems related to LAN, SNA and voice/data telecommunications systems. Works closely with vendor and manufacturer staff to coordinate installation and maintenance projects and to determine and correct problems that may occur during start-up and operation. Installs, configures, maintains and coordinates the use of software related to data communication controllers and gateways; installs a variety of business applications software and troubleshoots user problems related to software. Configures remote access and mainframe emulations on various personal computer platforms for off-site use; coordinates Internet software installation and application for off-site users. Installs and configures a variety of data cable and hardware elements, including hubs, switches, remote boundary routers, personal computers, dumb terminals and peripheral equipment. Maintains current knowledge of changes in the voice/data communications field; suggests improvements to Court network and related software and hardware applications to utilize available technology and meet user needs. Qualifications: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in computer science, information systems management, or closely related field and three years of recent experience performing systems support tasks equivalent to that of a Technology Specialist II or Senior Technology Specialist or three years of recent experience in the installation, maintenance and modifying of LAN, SNA and data communications hardware and software systems. Possession of Certification as a Network Analyst or Network Administrator is desirable. Salary: $95,355 - $105,027. (2009)

PROJECT MANAGER (INFRASTRUCTURE): Information Technology, 500 Indiana Ave, New, Washington D.C. Duties: Incumbent serves as IT Project Manager responsible for implementing and managing all aspects of IT project management throughout each phase of the systems development and product life cycle. Plans and directs the work of project team members. Serves as a technical resource in resolving mission critical IT issues. Works with stakeholders and conducts project scope planning to define and verify the requirements of the products and services to be provided. Manages the execution of IT projects, such as but not limited to Data Center Design, Wireless, Disaster Recovery, in accordance with the project management standards along with approved project plans and oversee information distribution, team development and quality assurance activities. Conducts project management activities spanning the nine knowledge areas, including risk identification, quality assurance and control, communications planning, organizational planning, and acquisition planning. Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in systems engineering or computer science or a related field plus three (3) years of experience in managing IT projects, and three (3) years in information technology methods and practices, including systems administration in MS Windows, CISCO network environment and data center operations. COMPUTER NETWORK SPECIALIST I: Supreme Court of Nevada, Administrative Office of the Courts, Information Technology Division. Duties: This position is with the Administrative Office of the Courts, Information Technology Division. Under general direction, this position will be required to perform and/or coordinate specialized work in computer networks and operating systems administration; provide daily assistance in the evaluation, maintenance, enhancement, operation, troubleshooting and repair of the Nevada Supreme Court’s current and future computer networks and operating systems; perform other related work as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major course work in computer science, information systems or other related field of study, and two years professional data processing work experience. Additional work experience may be substituted for education requirements. ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISOR 3: Superior Court of New Jersey, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Vicinage, Information Technology. Summary: Under the general direction of the Court Executive 2b (Information Technology Division Manager) and other supervisory personnel, the Information Technology Division is seeking a motivated and energetic professional with excellent technical and supervisory skills. Duties: The Administrative supervisor 3 position will administer office information systems including Windows 2003 servers, Windows XP desktops, and LAN/WAN connectivity covering eight separate locations in three countries. The successful candidate should be able to prioritize multiple project schedules; act as lead technical representative to Vicinage Information Technology staff; manage a Help Desk that receives more than 3000 calls per year; delegate tasks to subordinates; provide training to Vicinage staff; deploy software using automated methods; create, test and deploy security enhancements using group policy objectives; maintain and enhance a Windows 2003 network. Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Five years of increasingly responsible professional experience, two years of which shall have included experience in analyzing, designing, programming, troubleshooting and resolving technical problems associated with mainframe terminal, PC, or LAN’s; setting up mainframe terminals, PC’s or LAN’s and configuring and networking devices for the end user; installing software applications; database administration; computer operations and/or planning, acquiring, installing and implementing telecommunications facilities and services. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute paraprofessional and professional experience on a year for year basis. A master’s degree may be substituted for one year of general experience as indicated above. A law degree may be substituted for two years of general experience as indicated above. Knowledge of Active Directory and Lotus Notes administration is beneficial. Programming knowledge in C, C++, or Java is desirable. Some form of scripting knowledge in VB, Kixtart, AutoIt, or related languages is required. NETWORK SYSTEMS ENGINEER: U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, IT Department, Detroit, MI. Summary: This position is located in the Information Technology (IT) Department and reports to the Information Technology Manager. The purpose of this position is to coordinate and oversee the judiciary’s information technology networks. Duties: Maintain current network security and recommend and implement new technology that monitors network security. Maintain and organized computer systems within the Court to increase compatibility and share information. Develop and propose short-term and long-range network improvement plans for the Court, ensuring that the changes can be implemented with minimal disruption. Perform backups and disaster recovery operations for all network systems. Design, configure and implement Wireless Network hardware and software. Maintain contacts with professional organizations, and counterparts at other Court units regarding availability of network products and state-of-the-art technologies and techniques required by the court. Analyze recurring reports produced by the network using system capabilities, including regular statistical reports required, and special reports upon request. Review audits, and response times, adequacy, quality and available capacities for the network systems. Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years specialized and progressively responsible experience related to the technical aspects of data processing, office automation, and data communications and their applications, terminology and methodology, including the accomplishment of computer project assignments that involved systems analysis, design, programming, implementation, integration and project coordination; including at least 1 year equivalent to work at the CL-27 level. SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR: U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, IT Department, Detroit, MI. Summary: This position is located in the Information Technology Department and reports to the IT Manager. The employee has responsibility for the day-to-day administration of the Court’s operating systems, servers, and networks. Duties: Serves as a technical expert in the area of Windows and Unix systems and networks in the IT Department with the ability to assist in developing the employees who are responsible for the Court’s network, Windows, and Unix applications across all Court units. Provides ad-hoc and structured training to the Systems Group employees. Provides support in the areas of computer systems analysis, design, and development, maintenance, integration and implementation, configuration, system testing and diagnostics, executing systems technology plans, training of Court staff, configuration in support of operational units and procedures, coordinating efforts with other projects, and presenting recommendations concerning long range objectives. Responsible for the administration of systems software and hardware, installing new operating environments and implementation of new operating system patches, upgrades and releases, and identifying integration issues with developers or vendors. Determines the physical storage and bandwidth requirements to support applications, data storage, reliability, and security needs. Oversees initiation, verification, and maintenance of disk backups, including off-site storage. Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years specialized and progressively responsible experience related to the technical aspects of data processing, office automation, and data communications and their applications, terminology and methodology, including the accomplishment of computer project assignments that involved systems analysis, design, programming, implementation, integration and project coordination; including at least one year equivalent to work at the CL-28 level. STATE NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR: Nebraska AOC, Lincoln, Nebraska. Summary: The State Court Administrator is taking applications for a Network Administrator. Work involves managing a local area network for the offices of the Nebraska Supreme Court and Court of Appeals and other Court offices. Duties: Responsibilities include the installation of network hardware and software, maintenance and configuration of operating systems and application software. Qualifications: Requirements include a minimum of two years of experience in a computer related field and three years experience with a working knowledge of Novell Netware and Microsoft XP. Desired experience includes providing technical hardware and software end user support, network administration, and network topology support. A degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field and a CCNA or CNA certification is desired or a combination of training and/or experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
