COMPUTER NETWORK SPECIALIST I: Supreme Court of Nevada, Administrative Office of the Courts, Information Technology Division. Duties: This position is with the Administrative Office of the Courts, Information Technology Division. Under general direction, this position will be required to perform and/or coordinate specialized work in computer networks and operating systems administration; provide daily assistance in the evaluation, maintenance, enhancement, operation, troubleshooting and repair of the Nevada Supreme Court’s current and future computer networks and operating systems; perform other related work as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major course work in computer science, information systems or other related field of study, and two years professional data processing work experience. Additional work experience may be substituted for education requirements. Salary: $45,768-$68,089. (2008)

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISOR 3: Superior Court of New Jersey, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Vicinage, Information Technology. Summary: Under the general direction of the Court Executive 2b (Information Technology Division Manager) and other supervisory personnel, the Information Technology Division is seeking a motivated and energetic professional with excellent technical and supervisory skills. Duties: The Administrative supervisor 3 position will administer office information systems including Windows 2003 servers, Windows XP desktops, and LAN/WAN connectivity covering eight separate locations in three countries. The successful candidate should be able to prioritize multiple project schedules; act as lead technical representative to Vicinage Information Technology staff; manage a Help Desk that receives more than 3000 calls per year; delegate tasks to subordinates; provide training to Vicinage staff; deploy software using automated methods; create, test and deploy security enhancements using group policy objectives; maintain and enhance a Windows 2003 network. Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Five years of increasingly responsible professional experience, two years of which shall have included experience in analyzing, designing, programming, troubleshooting and resolving technical problems associated with mainframe terminal, PC, or LAN’s; setting up mainframe terminals, PC’s or LAN’s and configuring and networking devices for the end user; installing software applications; database administration; computer operations and/or planning, acquiring, installing and implementing telecommunications facilities and services. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute paraprofessional and professional experience on a year for year basis. A master’s degree may be substituted for one year of general experience as indicated above. A law degree may be substituted for two years of general experience as indicated above. Knowledge of Active Directory and Lotus Notes administration is beneficial. Programming knowledge in C, C++, or Java is desirable. Some form of scripting knowledge in VB, Kixtart, AutoIt, or related languages is required. A working knowledge of Ethernet infrastructures and technologies including TCP/IP, cabling, routers, switches, hubs, modems and other peripheral equipment is necessary. Salary: $60,419.57-$94,496.26 (2008).

NETWORK SYSTEMS ENGINEER: U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, IT Department, Detroit, MI. Summary: This position is located in the Information Technology (IT) Department and reports to the Information Technology Manager. The purpose of this position is to coordinate and oversee the judiciary’s information technology networks. Duties: Maintain current network security and recommend and implement new technology that monitors network security. Maintain and organized computer systems within the Court to increase compatibility and share information. Develop and propose short-term and long-range network improvement plans for the Court, ensuring that the changes can be implemented with minimal disruption. Perform backups and disaster recovery operations for all network systems. Design, configure and implement Wireless Network hardware and software. Maintain contacts with professional organizations, and counterparts at other Court units regarding availability of network products and state-of-the-art technologies and techniques required by the court. Analyze recurring reports produced by the network using system capabilities, including regular statistical reports required, and special reports upon request. Review audits, and response times, adequacy, quality and available capacities for the network systems. Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years specialized and progressively responsible experience related to the technical aspects of data processing, office automation, and data communications and their applications, terminology and methodology, including the accomplishment of computer project assignments that involved systems analysis, design, programming, implementation, integration and project coordination; including at least 1 year equivalent to work at the CL-27 level. Salary: $54,714-$88,985. (2007)

SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR: U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, IT Department, Detroit, MI. Summary: This position is located in the Information Technology Department and reports to the IT Manager. The employee has responsibility for the day-to-day administration of the Court’s operating systems, servers, and networks. Duties: Serves as a technical expert in the area of Windows and Unix systems and networks in the IT Department with the ability to assist in developing the employees who are responsible for the Court’s network, Windows, and Unix applications across all Court units. Provides ad-hoc and structured training to the Systems Group employees. Provides support in the areas of computer systems analysis, design, and development, maintenance, integration and implementation, configuration, system testing and diagnostics, executing systems technology plans, training of Court staff, configuration in support of operational units and procedures, coordinating efforts with other projects, and presenting recommendations concerning long range objectives. Responsible for the administration of systems software and hardware, installing new operating environments and implementation of new operating system patches, upgrades and releases, and identifying integration issues with developers or vendors. Determines the physical storage and bandwidth requirements to support applications, data storage, reliability, and security needs. Oversees initiation, verification, and maintenance of disk backups, including off-site storage. Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years specialized and progressively responsible experience related to the technical aspects of data processing, office automation, and data communications and their applications, terminology and methodology, including the accomplishment of computer project assignments that involved systems analysis, design, programming, implementation, integration and project coordination; including at least one year equivalent to work at the CL-28 level. Salary: $65,090-$105,778. (2007)

NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR (senior level): (General Description) Duties: Under general direction, controls, monitors and maintains servers and telecommunications devices including resolving system problems. Work performed: Ensures availability of servers and the network to support operational needs of the judiciary. Analyzes hardware and software for acquisition and applies fixes to network servers. Analyzes system failures and executes procedures to restore operations. Monitors server and network performance and anticipates needed changes to optimize performance. Designs and tests configurations necessary for new applications, new technology or enhanced performance. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree is computer science, system or software engineering or related technical field and six years of experience in systems design and administration, network administration or support activities in a multi-user environment. Requires thorough knowledge of operating systems and network protocols being used in the judiciary; C programming language; systems and network architecture and design; and the interdependence of software and hardware operating in a multi-site, multi-network and multi-user data processing environment. (2006)

STATE NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR: Nebraska AOC, Lincoln, Nebraska. Summary: The State Court Administrator is taking applications for a Network Administrator. Work involves managing a local area network for the offices of the Nebraska Supreme Court and Court of Appeals and other Court offices. Duties: Responsibilities include the installation of network hardware and software, maintenance and configuration of operating systems and application software. Qualifications: Requirements include a minimum of two years of experience in a computer related field and three years experience with a working knowledge of Novell Netware and Microsoft XP. Desired experience includes providing technical hardware and software end user support, network administration, and network topology support. A degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field and a CCNA or CNA certification is desired or a combination of training and/or experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Some work after hours and on weekends and holidays is required. Salary: Beginning monthly salary range is $3,091 to $3,498 based on experience. (2006)

CHIEF NETWORK SPECIALIST: New York Administrative Office of the Courts. Summary: Chief Network Technologists are assigned to central or regional Division of Technology officers where they are responsible for supervising subordinate network technologists and the management of multi-vendor client/server technology environments. Duties: They are responsible for complex wide and local area networks in order to ensure availability of services to all users.  Chief Network Technologists are responsible for assisting in developing network standards, policies and procedures and for planning and installation of operating and application software and hardware.  They coordinate resolution of problems with the implementation operation and maintenance of communications media, computer equipment and network design and perform other related duties.  Expertise with large-scale convergent data/voice/video networks including the installation, monitoring and support of either voice networks (Nortel Succession/Meridian systems) or data networks (high-speed optical networks, Layer 2-3 Ethernet switches/routers and WLA )is desirable. Ability to effectively work with the user community, vendors and internal resources is required. Candidates with relevant certifications, as well as experience with project management and NOC operations are preferred. Qualifications: Certification in Network Administration within eighteen (18) months of appointment; AND one (1) year of service in the Associate Network Technologist title OR Master's degree in computer science or a related fireld from an accredited college or university and two(2) years of wide area network operations experience in Ethernet environment and SNMP OR a Bachelor's degree and five(5) years of local/wide area network operations experience and SNMP management OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Salary: $79,835 + $1,264 Locality Pay. (2005)

NETWORK SPECIALIST: Nevada Administrative Office of the Courts. Duties: Analyzes and troubleshoots software, hardware and telecommunication problems. Diagnoses application, network and system errors with users to solve problems. Documents errors and monitors frequent or recurring problems to identify the need for upgrade in user training, applications, documentation, system and court procedures. Monitors timely resolution of problems, tests resolution prior to distribution to users and follows-up with customers to ensure a resolution has been achieved. Keeps user informed of problems that cannot be resolved to other technical staff. Develops, manages and maintains change reports to LANs and WANs hardware and software inventory and user configurations. Acts as liaison with vendors for hardware repairs. Develops and maintains system documentation regarding physical topology, equipment, environment and/or software. Prepares and distributes user documentation. Administers user accounts, security access to applications and systems. Administers e-mail, including account creations, deletions, availability, back-up and storage requirements. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management or in a technical discipline and at least two years’ general experience in one or more of the following areas: working with PC hardware, software and network operations; systems, application or network design, analysis and implementation; client/server system support; software testing, acceptance and distribution; court automation. Education may substitute for experience and experience may substitute for education at a rate of 30 semester hours equating to one year of full-time work experience. Knowledge of office application software such as WordPerfect, Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint; support of operating systems such as DOS, Windows, Novell NetWare, UNIX/AIX, and IBM AS/400; the interdependence of software, hardware and networks operating in a multi-site, multi-function, multi-network processing environment; troubleshooting and support of PC’s and peripherals; client server operating systems; court case processing and automation; specialized application software to support business functions. ASSOCIATE LOCAL AREA NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR: Criminal Court, New York City. Summary: Associate Local Area Network Administrators are assigned to administrative offices throughout the Unified Court System, where, under direction of administrative office personnel and Principal Local Area Network Administrators they are responsible for large, complex, or multiple local area networks, supervising subordinate local area networks administrators, and the management of multi-vendor client/server technology environments. They are responsible for wide area networks in order to ensure availability of services to all users. Associate Local Area Network Administrators are responsible for assisting in planning and implementation of network strategies in accordance with Department of Information Technology standards, policies, and procedures. Associate Local Area Administrators configure complex local area networks and install operating and application software and hardware. They resolve problems with the implementation, operation, and maintenance of communication media, computer equipment, and network design, and perform other related duties. Qualifications: Certification in network administration within eighteen months of appointment; and one year of service in the senior local area network administrator title, or bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university and three years of local area network operations experience in IBM, Novell, LAN using Token Ring, Ethernet, Windows, and OS/2 Operating Environment. While these are minimum qualifications for this title, consideration may be given to education and experience directly related to assignment. Salary: $57,901 + Location Pay $1200. (2004)
