Court Records Administrator Technology

ADMINISTRATOR OF COURT RECORDS TECHNOLOGY: Trial Courts of Arizona in Maricopa County, AZ. Summary: Responsible for the operations of the Court Reporters and Electronic Courtrooms for the Trial Courts in Maricopa County. Duties: Improve and monitor vendor(s) selection and compliance in support of courtroom technology; regional implementation and support functions; and electronic and court reporter records service support. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and eight years of progressively responsible administrative and management experience. A Master’s degree from a accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required on a year for year basis. Preferred: Knowledge of the principles and practices of management, administration, budget, personnel, strategic planning, public affairs, and communication and information technologies. COURT REPORTER: Superior Court of California, County of Contra Costa. Summary: The Superior Court in Contra Costa County is recruiting Court Reporters on a continuous basis. Duties: Typical tasks of a Court Reporter include: record verbatim testimony of all court proceedings using stenographic and computer aided transcription equipment and real time software; ask judge and other speakers for clarification of testimony instructions, orders and actions to ensure accurate record; prepare and read back all, and/or portions of the official court proceedings upon instruction from the judge; prepare and maintain printed steno notes and magnetic media of all testimony and proceedings and provide copies as requested by the court for storage purposes; prepare and certify written transcripts using computer aided transcription software; prepare daily transcripts as needed; receive and respond promptly to requests to produce transcripts; estimate cost of transcripts; prepare and deliver transcripts on an individual contractor basis and bill separately pursuant to established statutory guidelines; prepare and deliver all court-mandated appeal transcripts and extensions within statutory timeframes, formatted in conformance with statutory requirements; maintain a variety of electronic and paper files; archive court reports and transcripts; organize and ensure official records security; and provide court reporter services in other departments and courtrooms countywide when regularly assigned court is not in session; or due to operational necessity. COURT REPORTER II: Colorado Judicial Branch, Canon City, CO. Summary: The Colorado Judicial Branch is seeking a talented Court Reporter II for the combined court in Canon City, CO. This position provides professional verbatim reporting and transcribing for court proceedings, hearings and conferences. Duties: Reports proceedings of court trials, hearings, or conferences by shorthand, stenotype, or other methods where verbatim records are required by law. Transcribes the proceedings into accurate transcripts for purposes of appeal or by order of the court. Identifies participants by name to facilitate reporting; reads aloud statements of participants as requested during proceedings. Prepares and distributes transcripts and related reports and documents. Reviews transcriptions for technical accuracy. Maintains files and records of notes and exhibits. COURT REPORTER SUPERVISOR: District of Columbia Courts, Court Reporting, Washington, D.C. Summary: The Court Reporter Supervisor assigns Official Court Reporters to designated judicial officers and makes sure the Courts are receiving the most professional reporting and recording services available. Duties: The incumbent is responsible for monitoring the timely production of transcripts ordered by attorneys and litigants; compiles statistics regarding transcript production; prepares and issues standing written instructions and procedures and issues special instructions for non-routine or complex assignments; keeps employees informed regarding policies, procedures, and goals of management as they relate to the Division; monitors and reviews work quality; participates in the selection, evaluation, promotion and disciplinary actions of division employees; holds corrective interviews with employees and proposes disciplinary actions to the Division Director. OFFICIAL COURT REPORTER: Superior Court of Arizona, Mohave County. Duties: Responsible for utilizing specialized equipment while performing professional verbatim reporting and transcribing services for all court proceedings, hearings, and conferences; reading back testimony from stenographic notes and transcripts, and replying to correspondence related to transcripts of proceedings. The individuals selected will be subject to assignment in any Mohave County court location as needed. Qualifications: Requires the meeting of qualifications for standard certification and currently hold temporary certification pursuant to A.R.S. Title 32, chapter 40 and Arizona Code of Judicial Administration sections 7-206. Reporting experience in trial courts is required and real time ability preferred. COURT TRANSCRIBER I/II: Clark County District Court, Las Vegas, NV. Duties: Operates complex audio and/or video equipment to create an official court record; identifies system malfunctions or failures and provides for repair as required. Transcribes court proceedings from video/audio equipment to printed format, using word processing and appropriate transcription apparatus. Ensures that proper authorization is received for transcription requests; located and duplicates tapes as required and returns to proper location after usage. Proofreads transcribed materials for accuracy. Maintains records of work performed; prepares forms for estimates and billing for transcription service costs. SENIOR COURT RECORDER/TRANSCRIBER: District Court, Las Vegas Justice Court. Duties: Plans, organizes, assigns, and supervises and reviews the work of assigned court transcribers and recorders. Provides training to transcribers and recorders; provides input into employee performance evaluation process and effectively recommends employee selection, initial disciplinary action and other personnel actions. Determines work schedules, ensuring efficient and timely completion of work, including appropriate courtroom coverage for all courts in session. Organizes and maintains trial log notes, tapes, disks and Court Recorder’s Manual. Prepares invoices for per diem or transcript fees for contracted transcription/recorder services. Qualifications: Equivalent to graduation from high school; AND EITHER four (4) years of full-time experience in preparing verbatim transcriptions of court proceedings and actions from recording devices, OR three (3) years of full-time recording court proceedings and transcribing such proceedings. Previous supervisory experience preferred.  College level course work in paralegal studies or secretarial or office administrative subjects is desirable. COURT REPORTER: North Dakota Supreme Court, Grand Forks, ND. Summary: The Court Reporter is responsible for making a verbatim record of district and juvenile court trials, proceedings and other matters using computer-aided transcription, shorthand and/or audio recording equipment, writing court logs, noting appearances and essential events during proceedings, and providing typewritten transcripts, as required.  Positions assigned to this classification provide administrative and secretarial support to a district judge and court staff, assist in calendar control and scheduling, and may serve as a liaison between the district judge and others in matters handled by the judge. Duties: Accurately records, transcribes, and certifies the record of court and jury trial proceedings by computer-aided equipment per state and appellate requirements.  Responsibility also requires taking court notes during hearings to identify appearances and to note significant events during the hearing and to locate and present prior testimony.  Travel to other counties within and outside of the district for court proceedings assigned to the district judge is also required. Performs clerking duties in courtroom, administers oaths, marks documents, maintains logs and other forms, and transfers stenographic notes, files and records to the clerk of district court for reference. Prepares and distributes official transcripts and related documents. Coordinates meetings and maintains the calendar for the judge and his or her court schedule.  Schedules trials and other court proceedings, unless done by a calendar clerk and in cooperation with the clerk of court, and informs parties of the same. Provides secretarial and clerical support to the district judge by typing, transcribing, and proofing all correspondence, findings, orders, jury instructions, memorandum and other materials. Performs a variety of clerical and administrative tasks that may include: scheduling rotation of court reporter pool, answering phones, maintaining and purchasing office supplies, maintaining law library, arranging appointments and travel reservations, scheduling and notifying parties of meetings and proceedings, performing related scheduling functions, and preparing expense vouchers. Serves as primary contact for case-related information, as requested. Greets visitors, screens telephone calls and correspondence, provides information, explains policies and procedures or refers, as appropriate.  Acts as a liaison between the district judge and personnel from other agencies, the general public, and attorneys. Qualifications: Requires a high school diploma, graduation from an approved program in court reporting and one year of previous court reporting experience involving verbatim transcription in a legal setting. COURT TRANSCRIBER: City of Hagatna, Guam. Summary: This position involves high skilled and responsible technical clerical work. Duties: Primary functions are verbatim transcriptions of electronic recordation of judicial proceedings and/or hearings. Works with minimal supervision to ensure maximum verbatim accuracy of transcriptions and must maintain a high standard of confidentiality in carrying out these tasks. Qualifications: Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent, plus four (4) years of secretarial experience of which two (2) years must be in transcription work. Salary: $26,520.00 (2007)

OFFICIAL COURT REPORTER (Real-time): New Jersey Judiciary. Appellate Division, AOC. Trenton, New Jersey. Duties: The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking individuals to provide verbatim records of judicial proceedings and other meetings or hearings as requested utilizing a realtime reporting system under the direction of the Supervisor of Court Reporters. The selected individuals will transcribe notes verbatim when transcripts of proceedings are ordered. Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications: Three years of full-time experience producing verbatim records of proceedings in a court or court related environment. Possession of a valid Certified Shorthand Reporter License issued by the New Jersey State Board of Shorthand Reporting, and valid Certified Realtime Reporter Certificate issued by the New Jersey State Board of Shorthand Reporting or a valid National Certified Realtime Reporter Certificate. COURT REPORTER: Maricopa County, AZ. Summary: The Judicial Branch of Arizona in Maricopa County is currently accepting resumes for immediate as well as future openings for Court Reporters. These positions are unclassified under the Judicial Merit System Resolution and Rules. Court Reporters are hired by and serve at the will of the Court Reporter Pool Manager. Duties: This position reports courtroom proceedings and prepares case transcripts using stenographic equipment. Court Reporters may be assigned to more than one Judge in the following areas: Criminal, Civil, Family, Probation/Mental Health, Juvenile, Tax and Special Assignments. Qualifications: The position requires successful completion of a formal training program in, and certification as a Court Reporter, per Arizona Revised Statutes (ARS 32-4001, Et seq.), which includes the National Court Reporters Association Registered Professional Reporter’s Certificate (RPR). OFFICIAL COURT REPORTER: U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts, Boston, MA. Summary: The U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, Boston, has an opening for an Official Realtime Court Reporter. Official Court Reporters serve at the pleasure of the Court and must comply with the requirements of the Judicial Conference of the U.S., and the Court Reporter’s Manual published by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. Periodic travel to Worcester and Springfield divisional offices is required. Duties: The Official Court Reporter records verbatim testimony by Computer Assisted Technology (CAT) for civil and criminal court proceedings. At the request of a party or by order of the Court, the Court Reporter provides transcripts within the time frames and cost requirements of the Judicial Conference. Additionally, Court Reporters are responsible for determining that billings and formats comply with Judicial Conference requirements. Court Reporters must adhere to the requirements of the Court’s Court Reporter Management Plan of this District and maintain accurate, legible records which are subject to audits. This position involves completing record-keeping forms, documenting the information contained in reports, as well as maintaining and safeguarding records until their disposition according to the statutory requirements and Judicial Conference policy. DIGITAL COURT REPORTER: Administrative Office of the Courts, Florida. Summary: The position of Digital Court Reporter performs responsible work throughout the five counties of the circuit related to capturing and maintaining a verbatim record of court proceedings. Work is performed under the direction of the Electronic Court Reporting Manager. Duties: Operates electronic recording and transcribing systems to record, tag and transcribe court proceedings. Responsible for proper archiving and accessing of an electronic copy of a court proceeding. Performs duties related to maintaining and storing court recordings, responding to requests for court recordings, transcription services, and other related duties. Maintains a professional demeanor at all times and establishes effective working relationships with judges, court personnel, Offices of the Clerks of the Court, Office of the State Attorney, Public Defender’s Office, other state agencies, members of the bar, and the general public. Produce media requests. Qualifications: Graduation from a standard high school or GED equivalent and two years of advanced stenographic work in the court system, legal field or criminal justice environment or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience. OFFICIAL COURT REPORTER: U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan. Duties: An official court reporter is responsible for the verbatim reporting of proceedings held before U.S. District Judges and Magistrate Judges and for the transcription of those proceeding upon request. The successful candidate must possess excellent organizational skills to permit the production of transcripts within strict time limitations, work well under pressure, be willing to work as part of a team of reporters under the direction of the Supervisor of Court Reporting Services in fulfilling the needs of all judicial officers of the Court and possess excellent communication skills. In addition, the candidate must possess tact, judgment, poise initiative and maintain a professional appearance at all times. Qualifications: An applicant must possess as a minimum requirement at least four years of prime court reporting experience in a court, or in the free-lance field of service, or a combination thereof, and have qualified by testing for listing on the registry of professional reporters of the NCRA or passed an equivalent qualifying examination. Realtime certification is required. Special consideration would be extended to Registered Professional Reporters and reporters who possess a certificate of Merit from the NCRA. Duties: To serve as the courts official court reporter for an Associate Juvenile Court Judge. This position primarily serves Black Hawk, but also includes the counties of Allamakee, Buchanan, Chickasaw, Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque, Fayette, Grundy, Howard and Winneshiek Counties. Travel to other counties within the district is required. Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited high school (GED); graduation from a school of court reporting with courses including legal and medical terminology, English, typing and law.  Must be certified as a court reporter by the Iowa Board of Shorthand Reporters. COURT REPORTER SUPERVISOR 2: Passaic County Courthouse, Paterson, NJ. Summary: The New Jersey Judiciary seeks a well-organized individual to supervise and coordinate the work activities of the vicinage’s court reporters under the direction of the Assignment Judge and the Court Executive 3A (Deputy Clerk, Appellate Division). Duties: This individual will assign official court reporters to cover Superior Court judges and to record various judicial proceedings; provides verbatim record of such judicial proceedings; arranges for storage of court reporter notes; monitors preparation and filing of transcripts and prepares transcript reports; completes data entry requirements for computer programs; monitors court reporter attendance; evaluates official court reporter performance and provides coaching and counseling to improve performance; and performs related work as required. Qualifications: Successful completion of course work at an accredited school of court reporters training. Five years of full-time experience producing verbatim records of proceedings in a court as an Official Court Reporter. Possession of a valid Certified Shorthand Reporter license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Shorthand Reporting. Special Note: The Official Court Reporter shall provide the basic equipment necessary to perform the duties of the position. Salary: $55,491 - $86,936. (2005)

COURT REPORTER: Centre County Government, Court Administration, PA. Qualifications: High school diploma equivalent plus a 2-year degree from a court reporting school and certification. Excellent computer skills required. Two to four years in a legal environment. Salary: $30,576 - $45,435. (2005)

DIGITAL COURT REPORTER: Twentieth Judicial Circuit, Ft. Myers, Florida. Summary: This position performs responsible work throughout the five counties of the circuit related to capturing and maintaining a verbatim record of court proceedings. This position operates electronic recording and transcribing systems to record, tag and transcribe court proceedings. The position is responsible for proper archiving and accessing of an electronic copy of a court proceeding. This position also performs duties related to maintaining and storing court recordings, responding to requests for court recordings, transcription services, and other related duties, as assigned. The Digital Court Reporter will establish effective working relationships with judges, court personnel, Offices of the Clerks of the Court, Office of the State Attorney, Public Defender's Office, other state agencies, members of the bar, and the general public. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Electronic Court Reporting Manager. Qualifications: Graduation from a standard high school or GED equivalent and two years of advanced stenographic work in the court system, legal field or criminal justice environment. Notary certification in the State of Florida is preferred.  Certification from the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers (AAERT) may be required at the discretion of the Chief Judge or Designee.** A valid Florida Driver's License is required. Knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling of spoken word. Ability to use and understand the applicable analog and/or digital recording system for recording and transcribing proceedings.  Ability to type 35 correct words per minute. Ability to use a personal computer in a Windows environment.  Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and e-mail applications, such as Word and Excel.  Ability to use the Internet.** A typing test is required. COURT REPORTER: (General Description) Summary: Under general supervision, makes a verbatim record of court proceedings, produces transcripts, maintains and retrieves files, assists the public and performs general secretarial duties. Duties: Stenographically records verbatim judicial proceedings; reads back requested portions of records or notes; creates an outline and typewritten log of proceedings; keeps a detailed log, marks, receipts, secures and files all exhibits with the Clerk's Office. Transcribes stenographic notes and files by computer aided transcription to a finished transcript in official format. Edits transcripts, and researches cites, quotes, etc. Copies, binds, and produces transcripts upon request, and invoices parties. Types court orders, letters, and dismissals, sets hearings for petitions, records and fills out amended orders, and prepares paperwork for restraining orders. Qualifications: High School diploma or GED; successful completion of a court reporting program, and where applicable, Court Reporter Certification or equivalent.

REAL-TIME COURT REPORTER: (General Description) Summary: Under general supervision, makes an instantaneous verbatim record of court proceedings, produces transcripts, completes required paperwork and maintains dictionary and equipment. Duties: Stenographically records verbatim instantaneous transcripts of judicial proceedings by use of real-time software and hardware. Provides paralegal reports and specific transcript information for the court, counsel and parties. Troubleshoots hardware and software problems occurring in the courtroom to ensure verbatim text is appearing on the computers accurately. Marks, logs, and files exhibits. Creates and maintains case dictionary for each judicial proceeding taken in real time; creates stenographic outline for each word not in the reporter dictionary; researches case citations to ensure the accuracy of the citation as it appears on the screen, as well as medical, technical, and legal terminology. Sets up hardware and software for CIC/Litigation support application; trains users. Certifies real-time transcripts upon final proofreading and editing of the documents; provides paralegal reports, excerpts and requested portions of real-time transcripts by certification. Qualifications: Associates degree in court reporting or a high school diploma or GED with completion of a court reporting program; two years court reporting experience, and Real-time Certification. 

COURT REPORTER: Superior Court of California, County of Kern. Summary: Court reporters are required by statute and law to accurately take down the proceedings held in court, juvenile, civil, criminal, and before the grand jury, and to be able to provide a verbatim transcription of the proceedings when a transcript is required by law or statute or when requested. Court reporters operate real time equipment and read back proceedings proficiently as needed. Qualifications: High School graduation or equivalent and a license issued by the Certified Shorthand Reporters Board of California, Department of Consumer Affairs.  Court reporters must maintain licensure to ensure continued employment. A photocopy of the current license is required with the employment application.  Court reporters mush have equipment with real time capability and the reporter must be able to proficiently do read back when requested. Salary: $4,144 - $5,069/month. (2004)
