COURT INTERPRETER (SPANISH): Middlesex County Courthouse, New Brunswick, NJ. Duties: The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking individuals who under the general direction of the Court Executive 2B (ATCA) or other high level supervisors in the Trial Court Services Division, will interpret between English and Spanish, consecutive and simultaneous modes in court proceedings and other court related events, either in person or via a telecommunication devise; produce translations; collect information (e.g. specialized vocabulary) on cases to prepare the communicative event; and perform other related work as required. COURT INTERPRETER: Orlando, Fl. Duties: Spanish interpreter for circuit & county courts: first appearances, arraignments, preliminary hearings, trials & court proceedings.  Haitian Creole fluency a plus. Knowledge of the court system.  AA degree or equivalent plus three years of progressively responsible translating & interpreting experience in a court environment. COURT INTERPRETER – PART TIME: Pima County, Consolidated Justice Court, Tucson, AZ. Duties: Champion the values of the court through example and accountabilities; Interpret orally in the consecutive, simultaneous, sight translation and telephonic modes in English/Spanish and Spanish/English for formal and informal legal proceedings, court ordered processes and for all court divisions, and assists other county courts as required in related work situations; Translate from Spanish/English and English/Spanish court orders, court notices, petitions, technical, medical, or legal documents certificates, letters or other materials deemed essential to carry out court proceedings; Coordinates interpreting services in Spanish and other languages for all the courtrooms by maintaining a current list of available interpreters for various languages and investigates availability of interpreters as the need arises and reviews billing invoices for accuracy; Maintain and processes court case files by entering citation information into the automated system, entering dispositions, filing documents and case file folders and purging records according to the records retention schedule; Assist management in the preparation of statistical reports regarding the use of interpreting services in the court and analyzing future needs; Perform basic administrative functions including updating and maintaining the office case flow management system, collection of required data, and other administrative duties as assigned; Prioritize work assignments according to departmental priorities and follows and enforces all court and division guidelines including, but not limited to collecting attorney information for the purposes of billing for unauthorized use of interpreter services and following all safety procedures. COURT INTERPRETER (SPANISH): Superior Court of California, County of Contra Costa. Summary: The Superior Court in Contra Costa County is recruiting Certified Spanish Court Interpreters on a continuous basis. Duties: Typical tasks for Court Interpreters include: Interprets from and into English and the applicable non-English language using simultaneous and consecutive modes at court proceedings and for other court-related departments at the direction of the court. Makes sight translations for the benefit of the court of documents including, but not limited to, court petitions, reports, waivers, felony disposition statement forms, and other documents. COURT INTERPRETER: San Antonio, Texas. Duties: Consecutive and simultaneous interpretation in criminal and civil cases, drug court, juvenile, probate, and San Antonio State Hospital proceedings. Sight translation of documents, audio transcriptions, and videos. Assists office staff with clerical duties including answering phones and locating information on the mainframe terminal, and may include typing, filing, faxing, and copying. Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree and two years of interpreting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. COURT TRANSLATOR: Raleigh, North Carolina. Summary: The North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts, Court Programs and Management Services Division, seeks a qualified individual to translate official court transcripts from English to Spanish for use by the Appellate Defenders Office. Duties: Other duties may include, but are not limited to, translating forms from English into Spanish, managing an ACCESS data base of registered interpreters, processing contracts, responding to telephone and written inquiries about court interpreter services, and assisting in the administration of the court interpreter written and oral tests. Qualifications: A Bachelor's level degree (preferably in language translation, or in law or another related field) from a U.S. or recognized foreign university and two years of court translation experience, State or federal Interpreter Certification, three or more years of legal experience, and membership in good standing in a professional translators' association (e.g., ATA, NOTA, etc.) is preferred. COURT INTERPRETER (SIGN): State of New York Unified Court System. New York, New York Duties: Court Interpreters (Sign) are primarily responsible for interpreting between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English in the courtroom and other settings. COURT SERVICES OFFICER 2 (BILINGUAL): AOC, Probation Child Support Services, Mercerville, NJ. Summary: The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking a motivated and caring customer service representative to help staff a regional child support call center under a pilot program that may be extended and expanded. The center is to be administered cooperatively by the AOC’s Probation Division and the executive branch Department of Human Services, Division of Family Development. Under the pilot, this call center will be the initial point of contact for child support-related inquiries. Duties: Specific duties of these positions will include: establishing and maintaining cooperative and courteous relationships with all callers; interviewing callers to assess their needs; providing needed information or assistance; utilizing child support (ACSES) systems to ascertain the current status of a request; maintaining confidential protocols; performing research and analysis to identify problem areas; partnering with local Probation Division Child Support Units on call referrals; providing quality customer service to clients; and performing related duties as required. The above duties will be performed utilizing both Spanish and English communication skills. Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Two years of experience involving gathering and analyzing client/customer information, which shall have included the exercise of judgment and discretion, reviewing issues to identify customer needs, coordinating with other stakeholders to resolve issues and preparing reports of findings and recommendations. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute paraprofessional and professional experience for education on a year-for-year basis. A master’s degree may be substituted for one year of experience. A law degree may be substituted for two years of experience. The above examples of work are to be performed by utilizing Spanish or English, as required, depending on the needs of the individual persons communicated with during the course of official duties. Such examples do not require an individual to interpret or translate any court proceeding in any other context. PROVISIONAL INVESTIGATOR – BILINGUAL: Superior Court of New Jersey, Middlesex Vicinage. Duties: Under direction, makes preliminary contacts and performs fact-finding investigations pertaining to the financial resources, residency and other circumstances concerning persons under court supervision, applying for assistance in the enforcement of child support decrees, assignment of counsel, release on recognizance, or for other benefits which require judicial determination; performs related work as required. Qualifications: Two years of experience in casework involving the collection of facts, securing and verifying socioeconomic data, obtaining information by observing conditions, examining records, interviewing individuals, and preparing investigative reports of findings. Summary: Under the direction of the Court Executive 1b (Vicinage Assistant Probation Officer) and other supervisory personnel, this individual will be responsible for supervising a caseload of juvenile offenders with a variety of personal and behavioral problems in the Supervision Unit. VOLUNTEER TRANSLATOR: inMotion: Justice for All Women, New York City. Duties The student/volunteer will translate or review a translation of a pro se law library into various languages used throughout New York City--the student/volunteer may translate as many booklets as he/she wants. The pro se library addresses the limited availability of representation for an increasing number of women who cannot afford legal assistance. The Library consists of 11 booklets that cover the following subject matters: Paternity Proceedings, Adoption, Custody and Visitation, Guardianship, Divorce, Spousal Support, Child Support, Orders of Protection, Domestic Violence and Immigrant Women, Social Security Number and Name Changes, and New York City Courts. It is our hope that the library will be translated into numerous languages so that they can be used by pro se litigants, volunteer attorneys and community organizations who deal with clients whose first language is not English. Students/volunteers who can do written translations into Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Serbian, Turkish, Urdu, and Yiddish are needed. BILINGUAL (SPANISH) INFORMATION CLERK: District of Columbia Courts.
