DEPUTY CHIEF PROBATION OFFICER: Phoenix, Arizona. Duties: The principal responsibilities of the Deputy Chief include: Interprets County and Probation Department policy and directives to the management staff of the various divisions and institutions to ensure the department’s goals and objectives are consistent with the County’s mission and strategic plan; reviews operations and secures compliance with policy, Court Administrative Orders and State mandates; consults with and advises management staff on problems concerning personnel, procedures and services; evaluates continuing operations for effectiveness in accordance with evidence-based practices and, if indicated, initiates corrective action through discussion with the management staff involved; evaluates budgetary needs and participates in budget conferences with the Chief Probation Officer including preparing and administering the annual budgets according to the guidelines of Budgeting For Results; assists the Chief Probation Officer in all roles including creating a vision that is realized through the development and implementation of the department’s strategic plan; studies and reports on anticipated needs, services and staff safety issues for evidence-based practices in field operations and best practices in detention and implements as needed; evaluates the overall effectiveness of training programs and plans for future staff development needs; enlists the support of community groups and professional organizations to obtain strategic direction and collaborative partnerships for the overall administration of the department; works effectively with Judges and other Court personnel in a collaborative manner to resolve Court-wide issues; acts for the Chief PO during absences. Qualifications: The  ideal candidate must possess the minimum of a Master’s Degree in the Behavioral or Social Sciences, Corrections, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field and 6 years of increasingly responsible correctional experience; OR any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates potential ability to perform the duties of the position. Preferred Experience with Juvenile Detention Facilities and national American Correctional Association (ACA) guidelines. Salary: $60,507 - $90,771. (2005)

MASTER PROBATION OFFICER: Paterson, New Jersey. Duties: Under the direction of the Vicinage Chief Probation Officer or appropriate supervisor, mentors and coaches line officers; acts as lead worker to team members or other group of non-subordinates in assigned tasks; plans, organizes and supervises a caseload of chronic or acute offenders, evaluates overall client performance and conduct, enabling effective recommendations for action (e.g. prosecution, mediation, incarceration, continuance or conditional release); mediates non-dissolution matters such as child support, custody , or visitation rights; designs case management processes; develops policies or procedures to ensure efficient court or unit operation, makes decisions and recommendations or complex or critical work problems presented in the organization or unit; formulates policies, procedures or practices for organization, unit or program; and hears cases. Qualifications: Open to employees in Passaic Vicinage who have graduated college with a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 credit hours in the behavioral or social sciences; are serving in the titles of Senior Probation Officer for five years or serving as Probation Officer for ten years. Salary: $47,938.73-$77,445.80. (2005)

SUPERVISING PROBATION OFFICER: County of Napa Courts. California. Summary: Currently the essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: direct, supervise, and train subordinate staff; schedule, assign, and evaluate their work; supervise and be responsible for the overall activities of an assigned unit of Adult or Juvenile Probation Officers; assume responsibility for a variety of personnel actions including assisting with selections and promotion, conducting performance evaluations, and recommending disciplinary actions and dismissals; review court reports, case work reports, correspondence, and other documentation prepared by the staff; participate in establishing and developing departmental rules, policies and procedures; explain, interpret, and implement departmental policies and procedures to staff; develop and maintain in-service training programs for staff. Qualifications: Four years of professional probation experience. Possession of a master's degree in public administration, administration of justice, corrections, criminology, sociology, psychology, and of the behavioral sciences, or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.  Equivalent to graduation from a four accredited college or university with a major course work in public administration, administration of justice, corrections, criminology, sociology, psychology, and of the behavioral sciences, or a closely related field.  Applicants must be United States citizens. Must have possession of valid California Driver's License.  Complete mandated Standards and Training for Corrections program requirements.  Persons employed in this class must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Salary: 4,886.00-5,845.00/month. (2004)

COMMUNITY SUPERVISION OFFICER: Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency for the District of Columbia (CSOS), Washington D.C.   Summary: The incumbent oversees persons placed on probation/parole in the community through direct counseling, coordination of supportive services, monitoring of re-arrests, etc.  Visits correctional institutional institutions, hospitals, clinics, service providers and community agencies, etc., as well as attends judicial conferences and formal court hearings.  Produces written reports and makes oral presentations.  Qualifications:  Applicants must have a bachelor's degree.  Annual salary range:  $26,532 - $45,822.   (1998)

DIVISION MANAGER: Ada County Juvenile Detention Center, Fourth District Court, Boise, Idaho.  Ada County is Idaho 's largest and most populace court district, centered in Boise. Summary: The Detention Facility is a division of the overall Court, housing 87 beds, both detention and treatment, within the newly expanded facility.  The Division Manager is an exempt employee, serving under the Court Director.  The Manager must possess general overall knowledge of detention and residential treatment systems, inclusive of the medical, food service, financial and personnel components.  Strong written and verbal skills are required with a progressive perspective. Qualifications: include a bachelor's degree with 5 years of direct experience in a detention center or residential treatment program (master's degree preferred with 3 years of experience) in the academic field of criminal justice, sociology, social work or similar credentials.  Annual salary up to $45,000.  (1998)

SUPERVISING PROBATION OFFICER: Superior Court of New Jersey - Essex Vicinage, Probation Division, Newark, NJ.  Summary: Under the general direction of the Vicinage Assistant Chief Probation Officer or other high level official, supervises, monitors, coordinates, and oversees the activities of a designated probation team(s).  Instructs, evaluates and organizes program activities for the team(s); does related work as required.  Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in a social or behavioral science field or other field including or supplemented by 24 credit hours in the social or behavioral science field.  Four years of experience in providing social services, which shall have included experience in one or more of the following areas:  managing a caseload, analyzing data and/or recommending and implementing plans of treatment to be provided to a probationer or client; one year of which shall have been in a lead/supervisory capacity.  A master’s degree in a social or behavioral science field may substitute for one year of non-supervisory experience.  Annual salary range:  $29,945 - $57,402. JUDICIARY SUPERVISING INTENSIVE SUPERVISION PROGRAM OFFICER (Unclassified) (2 Positions): Intensive Supervision Program, Administrative Office of the Courts, Trenton, New Jersey.  Summary: These positions will be located in regional offices in Bridgeton and Jersey City, NJ.  Under direction of a Regional Supervisor, Intensive Supervision Program (ISP) or other supervisory officer, oversees the activities of ISP offices, support staff and consultants assigned to assessment duties; and coordinates the solicitation, review, and processing of program applications from county and state correctional institutions.  Duties: The selected individuals write assessment reports as directed; provide training in assessment report preparation; assist Regional Supervisors in field supervision of ISP Officers including back up supervision; supervise group community service sites and ISP group meetings; and perform other related duties as directed.  Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with five years of experience in the field of probation with at least one year of that experience as an ISP Officer.  A master’s degree in the field of social or behavioral science may be substituted for one year of non-supervisory experience as indicated above.  Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute indicated experience on a year for year basis.  Annual salary range:  $51,368 - $71,922. JUDICIARY SUPERVISING INTENSIVE SUPERVISION PROGRAM OFFICER: Probation Services Division, Toms River, New Jersey.  Duties: The incumbent directs and supervises the activities of the ISP officers, consultants, and support staff assigned to investigational duties; reviews and approves applicants for exclusion from the program at levels I and II; provides daily and weekly reports to the regional supervisor on cases assigned and monthly goals; hears appeals from decisions and responds to questions from the screening board; receives, reviews, and assigns all applicant cases; reads and approves assessment reports and forwards them to the screening board; trains staff in preparing assessment reports; and performs related duties as required.  Qualifications: include a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study related to probation and five years of experience in the field of probation, two years of which must have been supervising offenders.  A master's degree may be substituted for one year of the non-supervisory experience.  Additional experience as indicated above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required degree.  Salary is $46,152-64,620 annually.  (1992)

INTENSIVE SUPERVISION PROGRAM OFFICER: Administrative Office of the Courts, Trenton, New Jersey.  Summary: The incumbent assists program participants in attaining specific goals that ensure their successful completion of the program; assists in identifying vocational, economic, and psychological needs while monitoring participants for compliance with program conditions; completes assessment reports; performs other investigational assignments; and performs related work as required.  Qualifications: include a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study related to probation and four years of experience in the field of probation, two years of which must have been supervising offenders.  A master's degree may be substituted for one year of the non-supervisory experience.  Additional experience as indicated above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required degree.  Salary is $41,861-58,610 annually.  (1992)

REGIONAL SUPERVISOR: Intensive Supervision Program, Probation Services Division, Toms River, New Jersey.  Duties: The incumbent supervises the day-to-day operations of the regional office; plans, schedules, and coordinates the work of the professional and supporting staff; supervises and works with ISP officers in the counseling, guidance, and control of program participants; selects and trains regional office personnel; hears and resolves complaints about the ISP program and its participants, their families, communities, and sponsors; monitors expenditures of funds at local office; devises work methods, procedures, and workflow to assure the objectives of the ISP program are achieved; and performs other duties as required.  Qualifications: include a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study related to probation and six years of experience in the field of probation, two years of which must have been supervising offenders.  A master's degree may be substituted for one year of the non-supervisory experience.  Additional experience as indicated above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required degree.  Salary is $50,885-71,233 annually.  (1992)

SUPERVISING PROBATION OFFICER: Essex County Superior Court, Newark, New Jersey.  Summary: The incumbent supervises, monitors, coordinates, and oversee the activities of one or more designated probation teams; instructs, evaluates, and organizes program activities for the teams; and does related work as required.  Qualifications: include graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in a social r behavioral science field or other field (supplemented by 24 credit hours in the social or behavioral science field) and four years of experience in providing social services, which shall have include experience in one or more of the following areas:  managing caseload, analyzing data, and/or recommending and implementing plans of treatment to be provided to a probationer or client (one year of which must have been in a lead/supervisory capacity.  Educational substitutions may be made.  Salary is $25,018-48,300 annually. (1992)
