PROBATION OFFICER – BILINGUAL (ENGLISH & SPANISH): Superior Court of New Jersey, Union County. Summary: Under the direction of the Court Executive 2b (Division Manager or Vicinage Chief Probation Officer) and other supervisory personnel, is responsible for supervising a caseload of offenders with a variety of personal and behavioral problems. Duties: Specific duties will include enforcing all court orders for each offender; classifying each case in accordance with the orders of supervision; developing and implementing appropriate plans that will address the need of each probationer; maintaining an appropriate contact standard which includes personal, field and agency contacts; using the personal computer and mainframe application; having the ability to effectively convey to the court and agencies the progress and needs of probationers and performing other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 24 credit hours in the behavioral or social sciences. Candidates must provide official transcript prior to starting date. Since an open-competitive certification for this location is currently not available, applicants selected from this recruitment will be appointed provisionally at this time. Duties: This will include preparing reports; prioritizing cases; analyzing case histories; examining and analyzing case files and documents; interviewing defendants; drafting appropriate correspondence; contacting other courts and outside agencies; identifying and analyzing defendants’ social, economic, emotional and behavioral problems and making appropriate recommendations for improvement, treatment and/or rehabilitation; using the personal computer and criminal justice databases and performing other related duties as assigned. COURT EXECUTIVE 1B: Superior Court of New Jersey, Monmouth Vicinage. Summary: The Judiciary of New Jersey, Monmouth Vicinage, is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic professional to perform and lead in a challenging environment. Duties: Under the general direction of the Court Executive 2b (Vicinage Chief Probation Officer), the selected individual will assist in directing and supervising the everyday operations of a major section of the Probation Division; will coordinate activities between or among agencies or other government or enforcement units; provide information to judges, attorneys or community organizations; review court activities for compliance with laws, court rules, or administrative directives; recommend improvement in operating procedures or administrative practices; supervise employees; evaluate the performance of staff; recommend personnel actions; conduct formal work performance evaluations with staff or team members; performs other related duties as required. Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. JUVENILE PROBATION DEPUTY CHIEF: Judicial Branch of Arizona in Maricopa County. Duties: The principal responsibilities of the Deputy Chief include: Interprets County and Probation Department policy and directives to the management staff of the various divisions and institutions to ensure the department’s goals and objectives are consistent with the County’s mission and strategic plan; reviews operations and secures compliance with policy, Court Administrative Orders and State mandates; consults with and advises management staff on problems concerning personnel, procedures and services; evaluates continuing operations for effectiveness in accordance with evidence-based practices and, if indicated, initiates corrective action through discussion with the management staff involved; evaluates budgetary needs and participates in budget conferences with the Chief Probation Officer including preparing and administering the annual budgets according to the guidelines of Budgeting For Results; assists the Chief Probation Officer in all roles including creating a vision that is realized through the development and implementation of the department’s strategic plan; studies and reports on anticipated needs, services and staff safety issues for evidence-based practices in field operations and best practices in detention and implements as needed; evaluates the overall effectiveness of training programs and plans for future staff development needs; enlists the support of community groups and professional organizations to obtain strategic direction and collaborative partnerships for the overall administration of the department; works effectively with Judges and other Court personnel in a collaborative manner to resolve Court-wide issues; acts for the Chief PO during absences. Qualifications: The ideal candidate must possess the minimum of a Master’s Degree in the Behavioral or Social Sciences, Corrections, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field and six years of increasingly responsible correctional experience; OR any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates potential ability to perform the duties of the position. PREFERRED: Experience with Juvenile Detention Facilities and national American Correctional Association (ACA) guidelines. Salary: $60,507 - $90,771. (2005)

COURT SERVICES SUPERVISOR 2: Superior Court of New Jersey, Camden Vicinage. Duties: Under the general direction of the Court Executive 1B, (Vicinage Assistant Chief Probation Officer) or other high level official, supervises, monitors, coordinates, and oversees the activities of a designated probation team(s). Instructs, evaluates, and organizes program activities for the team(s). Does related work as required. Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Three years of increasingly responsible professional experience, one year of which shall have included experience in Case Management, Calendar Management, or Program Administration including: development, analysis, implementation, administration or research. PROBATION SURVEILLANCE OFFICER: Mohave County, Arizona. Summary: The Mohave County Probation Office seeks qualified applicants for the position of Probation Surveillance Officer I in Bullhead City. This position is responsible for assisting officers in monitoring and enforcing the conditions of probation for adult/juvenile offenders, and overseeing various community work service projects. Qualifications: Requires high school diploma or G.E.D, two years law enforcement experience in surveillance, investigation or related field, ability to work a varied schedule and minimum age of 21 years. Salary: $13.19 per hour. (2005)

DEPUTY PROBATION OFFICER: Provo, Utah. Duties: Supervises juveniles work projects; documents and submits work hours. Transports juveniles to and from work sites. Provides a safe and positive work environment, and promotes a positive work ethic. Trains juveniles to perform work tasks safely. Provides rewards or sanctions for behavior. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment. Qualifications: Graduation for high school plus two years of practical experience working with the public or with juveniles or any equivalent combination of education and experience. College education in social and behavioral sciences, psychology, sociology, social work or related field preferred.  First aid certification desirable. Ability to follow written or verbal instructions. Must have the ability to deal with stressful or emotional situations and make critical decisions under pressure. Salary: $10.60-$11.82/hour. (2005)

PROBATION OFFICER: Adult Probation Sex Offense Unit. Summary: Interview defendants, families, children and all other primary persons involved in case; Makes follow-up contact and verifies all facts learned through initial interview, including personal contact with secondary person involved in the case, such as victims, family members, school officials, employers, police departments, etc.; Makes case plans and monitors client progress in court referred programs. Responsible for case staffing with other professionals such as social workers, psychologists and polygraph examiners; Counsels individuals and/or families; provides crises intervention when needed; Compiles obtained information and writes court reports; appears in court for all hearings; Bi-monthly meetings with treatment providers and law enforcement personnel; Conducted scheduled and unannounced home and field visits. Qualifications: Prefer completion of a Master's degree in Behavioral Sciences, including Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Sociology, etc. and a minimum of two years of probation, counseling, residential placements, social work or related human service program work with sex offenders; Ability to plan and organize casework activities; Working knowledge of criminal laws and regulations; Considerable skill in working effectively with the public and applying professional methods of handling socially maladjusted and emotional disturbed individuals; Demonstrated skill in observing, diagnosing, and recording behavior patterns of individuals; An interest and desire to work with higher risk adult sex offense population. PROBATION OFFICER: (working level) Summary: Under direction, prepares pre-sentencing reports, appears in court to present recommendations on treatment and sentencing, supervises defendants on probation and manages cases. Duties: Investigates defendant's educational, family, criminal and social background, and/or previous treatment compliance. Assesses and determines the risks and needs of defendants for treatment and/or acceptance into intervention programs. Analyzes, verifies, justifies and reports treatment and sentencing recommendations to the court. Develops, interprets and implements supervision plan for defendant. Monitors defendants' compliance with sentencing and conditions of probation by establishing interaction and regularly scheduled meetings. Appears in court to elaborate, defend or respond to information in pre-sentencing report. Compiles monthly statistical reports. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in social science with three years of experience in counseling and mediation techniques and facilitation, conflict resolution, case management, crisis management and/or supervising individuals on probation. Knowledge of probation objectives, principles and methodologies, the criminal justice system, counseling theories and techniques, community resources, and individual and group behavior. (2001)

PROBATION/PAROLE ASSISTANT: Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency for the District of Columbia (CSOS), Washington, DC.  Duties: The incumbent prepares supervision report forms and a variety of referral and case management forms.  Compiles statistics and assigns probation cases to probation staff.  Prepares and maintains time and attendance records and carries out related payroll support functions.  Inputs probation cases data into computer terminal, entering corrections and providing background information and related case research for probation staff.  Maintains communication with judicial support personnel, other Court staff and performs related liaison activities with other criminal justice agencies and/or personnel.  Qualifications: Must have one year of administrative or clerical experience.  Must also demonstrate ability to use computerized equipment.  Quality Ranking Factors:  1) Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing.  2) Demonstrated proficiency in use of personal computer.  Annual salary range:  $19,884 - $28,260. PROBATION OFFICER: King County District Court, Seattle, Washington.  Duties: Conducts and writes pre-sentence investigations; assesses problem areas including alcohol or drugs, domestic violence and mental illness; assists probationers concerning problems that affect individual probation plans; assists in vocational education or employment; contracts and corresponds with other agencies related to individual in or to monitor activity and progress; writes final disposition reports and presents to the court with recommendations.  Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in social/behavioral sciences, but graduate work or master’s degree preferred.  One year interviewing and social/psychological diagnostic experience, preferably in the criminal justice system.  Substitution:  Graduate course work or special education and work experience in diagnosis and treatment of alcoholism, other substance abuse, domestic violence and mental health may be substituted for the work experience on a month-for-month basis.  Must be well organized and have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.  Must complete the requirements of WAC 139-210 Correctional Services Academy training within six months of employment and have met or be willing to meet the requirements of WAC 275-19 Qualified Alcoholism Assessment Officer.  Union membership required.  Annual salary range: $35,350 - $44,934.  EOE. (1997)

PROBATION OFFICER BILINGUAL (SPANISH & ENGLISH): Superior Court of New Jersey - Essex Vicinage, Criminal Division, Newark, NJ.  Duties: Under direction, performs the work as required by any court under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey Supreme Court including, but not restricted to, conducting investigations both pre-dispositional and post-dispositional in nature; exercises supervision over defendants, adjudicated or convicted offenders, or others who require supervision or assistance by court order; enforces orders for child support and alimony payments; conducts custody investigations; and does related work as required and/or mandated by court decision or rule.  Qualifications:  Graduation from a four-year course at an accredited college or university with a major course of study in the social or behavioral sciences.  Applicant must be bilingual in Spanish and English.  A Certification is currently not available for this title.  The employee selected will be appointed provisionally.  To be regularly appointed, the selected individual must apply for the exam issued by the Department of Personnel, successfully pass and be at rank reachable for appointment.  Annual salary range:  $26,573 - $44,304. PROBATION OFFICER TRAINEE: Adult or Juvenile, First Judicial District of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Summary: Beginning level professional work, counseling juvenile or adult offenders in activities related to legal conditions of probation or parole.  Employees in this class participate in various phases of probation work under the close supervision of a higher level probation officer.  As experience is gained, a progressively expanding case load in range and complexity is assigned.  Duties:  confers with offender, legal representative, family, and other concerned persons, and reviews documents regarding offender’s legal and social history to conduct pre-hearing or pre-sentencing investigations and to formulate rehabilitation plan.  Compiles reports, testifies in court, and makes recommendations concerning the conditions of release or institutionalization of offender.  Informs offender or guardian of legal requirements of conditions of release, such as visits to office, restitution payments, or educational and employment stipulations.  Counsels offender and family or guardian.  Helps offender to secure education and employment, arranges custodial care, and refers offender to social resources of community to aid in rehabilitation.  Evaluates offender’s progress on follow-up basis including visits to home, school and place of employment, and secures remedial action by court if necessary.  Other duties may be required and assigned.  Qualifications:  knowledge of social and behavioral sciences with emphasis on behavior deviations and delinquent or criminal behavior.  Knowledge of community, social and economic resources and conditions, and their relationship to crime and delinquency.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with disturbed and/or maladjusted individuals as well as public agencies and institutional personnel and the general public.  Ability to express ideas clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.  Starting annual salary range:  $26,954 - $29,539. PROBATION OFFICER: District Court 9-1, Kalamazoo, Michigan.  Summary: The incumbent supervises individuals placed on probation, conducts persistence investigations, performs substance abuse assessments, and participates in various court programs.  Qualifications: include two years of experience in a criminal justice system, preferably a district court or related agency, or a combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and skills.  A bachelor's degree in criminal justice, counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field; considerable knowledge of human relations, interpersonal communications, court practices and procedures, and community agencies; considerable skill in conducting interviews, investigative techniques, information analysis, and report writing; and the ability to plan, organize, and supervise clientele are desirable.  Salary is $13.24-15.88 hourly.  (1992)

DEPUTY PROBATION OFFICER I: Mohave County, Arizona.  Duties: The incumbent performs professional entry/journey-level work involved in supervising an assigned caseload of probationers and compiling information for the court to determine punitive and rehabilitative action; conducts pre-sentencing investigations, interviews, and verification of information in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines; and performs special assignments as requested and related work as required.  Qualifications: include a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the behavioral or social sciences.  Prior probationary related work experience is preferred.  An equivalent combination of experience, education, and training that provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted for the required degree.  Salary is $10.31-13.86 hourly. (1991)
