RESEARCH ANALYST: The National Center for State Courts (NCSC), Williamsburg, VA. Summary: NCSC provides leadership and service to state courts through research, training, technical assistance and other services. We are seeking a Research Analyst to work in a team-based, applied research environment, supplying court leaders with research that directly affects courts in such areas as domestic violence, sentencing, court workload and performance, civil justice, jury management, and more (see "http://www.ncsconline.org/d_research" for our research program). Duties: The Research Analyst will work on projects that collect and analyze data from every court in the country and will participate in other research projects as well, not only collecting and analyzing data, but also drafting reports and presenting information to diverse audiences. Qualifications: Qualified applicants must have an M.A. in the social sciences, public policy, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Expertise in Excel and SPSS is a must; database and Web design experience preferred.Salary from $37,764 depending on experience and qualifications. NCSC offers a comprehensive benefits package. ANALYST (COURT ADMINISTRATION) -- National Center for State Courts, Williamsburg, VA.   Full-time position available with leading national court improvement organization.  Duties: include assisting court personnel to develop policies and make informed decisions by identifying, researching, and analyzing social science and legal materials about court administrative issues.  Qualifications: a bachelor's degree (graduate degree in criminal justice, any of the social sciences, public or business administration, or law desirable); two (2) years of work experience with background in domestic relations; civil, juvenile, and/or criminal justice; or law library.  Graduate education may substitute for work experience at rate 1 yr-Ed; 1 yr-Exper.  Fluency in foreign language, particularly Spanish, desirable.  Applicants must be familiar with court structure; information exchange and customer service methods; and social science and research techniques using on-line and CD-Rom databases.  Ability to handle multiple tasks; work on a team and effectively communicate orally and in writing required.  Starting annual salary range:  $29,575 - $31,699 depending on background and experience.  Liberal fringe benefits.  (1998)

POLICY ANALYST -- Full-time position available in Denver, CO with the Court Services Division of the National Center for State Courts (NCSC), a national court improvement organization.  Duties: include assisting with design and development of survey instruments; gathering, organizing and analyzing data and information; contributing to project reports, and performing specialized research tasks.  Qualifications: Position requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field (graduate degree in judicial administration preferred) and 1-2 year’s experience with court operations/administration, research, and statistics. Applicants must possess good communication skills and ability to prioritize, plan, coordinate and execute multiple tasks within deadlines. SEARCH, Summary: The National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics, a national nonprofit criminal justice organization, is seeking qualified candidates for its National Technical Assistance and Training Program which offers no-cost, expert technical assistance to local, county and state justice agencies nationwide that help to acquire, develop, upgrade or integrate their computers.  Director, Courts Technical Assistance Project: Oversees SEARCH’s new project to assist the judiciary - including trial, family and appellate courts, administrative offices of the court, pretrial services agencies, and probation, prosecutor and public defender offices -- and serving as liaison to courts associations that are partners in this effort.  The technical assistance is provided on a range of issues, including information systems and automation planning, needs assessments, and technical consultations on operational and policy issues associated with information systems.  Substantial travel.  Qualifications:  Familiar with the structure and processes of local and state courts, understand the information management needs of courts, and have expertise in information management and related technology.  Immediate opening in Sacramento, CA.  Technical Assistance Specialist:  Several openings which involve providing assistance to criminal justice agencies on a range of issues, including information systems and automation planning, needs assessments, and technical consultations on operational and policy issues associated with information systems.  Substantial travel.  Qualifications:  Familiar with the structure and processes of criminal justice agencies, particularly local law enforcement and corrections, and have expertise in information management and related technology.  (1997)

COURT TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST--Court Technology Programs Department, National Center for State Courts, Williamsburg, Virginia.  Duties:  work on technology projects; preparation of videotapes, workbooks, electronic dissemination media, and other educational materials regarding court technology; project management; preparation of funding applications; and financial management.  Qualifications:  bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years’ court technology experience is required; a graduate degree in judicial administration, information systems, public administration, business administration, law, or other related fields is preferred; knowledge of court operations, management, and technology; and the ability to speak and write clearly and effectively is required.  Salary range:  $34,927 - $37,437. RESEARCH DIRECTOR--Justice Research and Statistics Association (JRSA), Washington, D.C.   Summary: JRSA is a nonprofit association that conducts national and multi-state research and policy analysis in criminal justice.  Duties: The incumbent manages research and technical assistance projects focusing on evaluation research and policy analysis; directs association's activities pertaining to research proposal development; provides technical assistance and training in JRSA national computer center; and works closely with state criminal justice research and statistics agencies.  Qualifications: include administrative experience in academic or nonprofit setting and in federal grant writing and management and a demonstrated proficiency in social science research methods and quantitative data analysis.  Prior experience in the supervision of large-scale research projects is desired.  A Ph.D. in social sciences and knowledge of government administration, operations, services, and the criminal justice system are preferred.  Salary is $50,000-60,000 annually, based on experience with excellent benefits.  (1993)
