Director,
State Law Library
DIRECTOR,
LAW LIBRARY:
Arizona
Superior Court, Pima County,
Arizona.
Summary: Under the general direction of the
presiding judge, the incumbent will perform work of considerable
difficulty in daily and long-range planning and directing of the
operations of the Superior Court Law Library.
Duties: include
developing library goals and recommending and implementing
policies and procedures for the daily operations of the library;
preparing, submitting and administering library operational
budget; monitoring and controlling law library book fund, income
and expenditures in compliance with Arizona Revised Statutes;
directing and participating in the selection, evaluation, and
discipline of library staff.
Qualifications: A master's degree in library
science plus three years of administrative experience in a law
library is preferred. A
master's degree from an institution accredited by the American
Library Association and graduation from an ABA-accredited law
school, or two years of experience as librarian with a major law
library, or six years of increasingly responsible work as a
professional librarian performing relevant duties in a large law
library, including at least two years of library management and
staff supervisory responsibilities, may be substituted.
Salary range for this position is $40,000-65,000. (1993)

LIBRARIAN:
Oregon
Supreme Court
Library, Salem, Oregon. Qualifications:
J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school; one year of postacademic
experience in legal research; two years of experience in law
library administration; knowledge of research databases and
library automation systems; experience in program development. Must
be team oriented, with strong interpersonal and organizational
skills. (desired):
master of library science degree, cataloging experience,
and experience in appellate legal research or in a judicial
setting. Salary:
$3,203 - $4,088 (monthly). (1993)
SUPREME
COURT LAW LIBRARIAN:
Bismarck, North Dakota. Summary: Under
the general direction of the chief justice, the incumbent
oversees the operation of the supreme court law library, which
provides legal reference services to state and local courts,
attorneys, and other library patrons.
Qualifications: include graduation from an
accredited law school and a bachelor's degree in library
science. A master's
degree in library science is preferred.
Starting salary is $31,200 annually, with a 5 percent
increase after six months of satisfactory performance.

assistant works with the law librarian in developing and
implementing law library goals, objectives, policies, and
procedures; catalogs, classifies, and organizes library
materials; automates materials check-in and cataloging
procedures; responds to needs of patrons; searches and explains
on-line databases, CD-ROM products, and other technologies;
contributes to library publications; participates in
acquisitions and collection development; collects, maintains,
and reports library statistics.
Qualifications: a master's degree in library and
information science from an American Library
Association-accredited library school; two to five years of law
library experience; at least one year of professional experience
in law cataloging or technical services.
A law degree may be substituted for one year of law
library experience. Salary:
$26,183 - $33,417, with benefits.

ASSISTANT
LIBRARIAN: Supreme
Court of California, San Francisco, California.
The Supreme Court of California is accepting applications
for an assistant librarian to provide professional support in
the Supreme Court Library. Duties:
Under the supervision of the law librarian, the assistant
librarian will provide specialized legal and general reference
service to justices and court staff; catalog and classify
library materials; maintain public catalog; oversee all
technical processing and library maintenance functions including
acquisitions, collection control and conservation, and
interlibrary loan; keep current library procedures manuals;
maintain library statistics; and perform other related tasks as
needed. Qualifications:
include graduation from a four-year college or university
and possession of an M.L.S. or equivalent degree from an
ALA-accredited library school and one year of professional law
library experience, as well as knowledge of professional law
library practices, terminology, and methods including CALR.
Supervisory experience, strong public service
orientation, effective organizational and interpersonal skills,
and excellent verbal and written communication skills, and
proficiency in manual and electronic legal and non-legal
research tools including LEXIS/NEXIS, WESTLAW, DIALOG, RLIN and
the Internet is helpful. Salary
range for this position is $2,718-3,304 per month.
