COURT EXECUTIVE OFFICER: Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento. Summary: Acting under the direction of the presiding judge and at the pleasure of the judges of the court, the court executive officer serves not only in that capacity but as the court’s clerk and jury commissioner. He or she is responsible for overseeing the management and administration of non-judicial operations of the court. The responsibilities include allocating resources in a manner that promotes access to justice for all members of the public, providing a forum for the fair and expeditious resolution of disputes, maximizing the use of judicial and other resources, increasing the efficiency of court operations, and enhancing service to the public. The executive officer’s main office is in Sacramento. Some travel is required – to other court locations, to the AOC in San Francisco and to other job-related destinations. Duties: The executive officer is responsible for providing innovative creative leaderships and policy development to meet the challenges of a large urban trial court. Essential functions, accountabilities and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to: Provides information and recommendations to the bench on court policy and procedure, evaluation, planning and development. Plans manages and controls budget and fiscal resources and negotiates contracts on the court’s behalf. Plans, implements and manages policies, programs and systems to support case processing and service to the public. Develops, recommends and administers a court-approved personnel plan and directs management staff. Has authority to appoint and terminate court employees except as prohibited by law or court policy. Evaluates and implements technology and automated systems to assist the court. Under the direction of the Presiding Judge, speaks on behalf of the court with other governmental entities, the public, the private sector and the media. Qualifications: The minimum educational requirement is a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in court, public or business administration; pubic policy; or a closely related field. Work experience must have included assignments that involved substantial administrative management, supervision of subordinate managers and budget preparation and management. Additional qualifying work experience may be substituted for the required education. Management experience in a large court or other large organization, public or private, is desirable. COURT SERVICES SUPERVISOR 1: Superior Court of New Jersey, Hudson Vicinage. Summary: The Hudson Vicinage has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, self-motivated professional to work in the General Operations Division’s Jury Management Unit. Duties: Under the general direction of the Jury Manager, the selected candidate will be responsible for assigning and coordinating workloads; scheduling and monitoring staff; conducting performance evaluations; evaluating the work unit’s performance, ensuring accuracy of work products; and handling employee relations issues. ADMINISTRATIVE SPECIALIST 3: Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties. Duties: Under the general direction of the Court Executive 2b (Assistant Trial Court Administrator/Operations Division Manager) and other supervisory personnel, the individual will be responsible for the coordinating and maintaining of statistical data in Hunterdon County for Interpreting Services and Records Management for the Operations Division. This person will also have responsibility for Jury Management including, but not limited to: handling inquiries by jurors, explaining the law as related to jury issues, electronically ordering summonses through the Jury Automated System, orientation of jurors and performing Grand Jury Clerk responsibilities as necessary. COMMISSIONER OF JURORS IV: New York United Court System. Summary: Commissioners of Jurors are responsible for providing qualified grand and trial jurors to the courts. They serve in a confidential capacity supervising activities of qualifying, summoning, non-compliance enforcement, impaneling, and assigning individuals to serve as jurors as provided by the Judiciary Law and other laws, rules, and regulations. Commissioner of Jurors IV positions work in counties where the number of jury trials commenced, averaged over three years, is more than 4% of the statewide total (exclusive of New York City). When the average number of jury trials commenced in a particular county is within 20% of the benchmark requirement, the presence or absence of significant managerial functions may be considered in determining the appropriate classification. Examples of significant managerial functions include operational control of major multi-court, multi-county or district-wide initiatives; responsibility for court operations in multiple, geographically separate locations which are permanently staffed by two or more employees, other than chambers staff; assignment of additional responsibilities outside those normally given to a Commissioner of Jurors, such as serving on a statewide policy committee, oversight of an arbitration program or serving as a countywide coordinator of a Unified Court System-paid security force. Prepares budget requests and determines priorities for resource allocation. Consults with multiple judges and court administrators to develop policy, administrative structure, uniform procedures, and new programs. Monitors operations to insure maximum juror utilization. Abilities: Knowledge of laws, rules, policies, and procedures pertaining to jury management. Knowledge of the functions and organization of the Unified Court System and Federal, State, and local governments. Knowledge of juror management, personnel, and budget practices and procedures. Summary: The Circuit Court of Cook County Illinois seeks a
Jury Administrator to prepare and maintain juror records,
qualify petit and grand jurors for service, process summons
mailings, and perform such other duties related to the selection
of jurors for the Court.
Qualifications: (preferred): The ideal candidate
should have extensive experience in the administration of
large-scale jury systems, outstanding personal communication
skills, and a working knowledge of application software in jury

JURY CLERK: United States District Court. District of Massachusetts. Summary: The Jury Clerk is responsible for the work of the Clerk's Office in connection with the qualifying, managing, and paying jurors (petit and grand) for service. Responsibilities include: Preparing, mailing and receiving responses, processing and sorting qualification questionnaires; filing, sorting and preparing juror qualification summonses according to dates; responds, connects and files all mail; reviews all summonses for qualifications of jury service under applicable statutes and local rules; updates and maintains Integrated Voice Response (IVR) database; Assists with creation, coordination and preparation of jury panels; monitors and records juror attendance; assists with juror orientation and instructs jurors as to their duties and court procedures; distributes weekly juror payments and certificates of attendance; distributes weekly juror payments and certificates of attendance; responds to all public inquiries by telephone and in person; and assists all serving jurors with their daily parking validations, certificates and questions. Qualifications: Strong computer and data entry skills a must; college degree preferred. Salary: $26,381 to $47,479. (2003)
