Jury Supervisors

JURY ADMINISTRATOR: Summary: The Circuit Court of Cook County Illinois seeks a Jury Administrator to prepare and maintain juror records, qualify petit and grand jurors for service, process summons mailings, and perform such other duties related to the selection of jurors for the Court.  Qualifications: (preferred): The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in the administration of large-scale jury systems, outstanding personal communication skills, and a working knowledge of application software in jury administration systems.  A bachelor’s degree in public administration is preferred.  The salary is commensurate with experience.  Duties:  include supervision and training for 20-30 staff employees involved in preparing and maintaining juror lists and qualifying jurors; coordinating summons mailings and processing return mail; communicating and working with State and local officials to obtain source files and prepare general jury and active jury lists in accordance with Illinois statutes; developing written juror qualification standards and administering the application of those standards by court personnel; compiling and reporting qualitative and quantitative data concerning jurors selected, qualified or excused from service; and, financial reporting and budgeting for departmental expenditures.  (1997)

JURY MANAGER: Essex County Superior Court, Newark, New Jersey.  Duties: Under the supervision of the trial court administrator or other higher level supervision official, the incumbent oversees, coordinates, and evaluates all activities associated with jury operations (petit and grand juries); oversees jury lists; monitors the policies used in eliminating potential jurors; reviews requests for postponement from potential jurors; ensures that an adequate number of qualified jurors are available; manages the daily operation of the jury assembly room; prepares jury utilization reports; and evaluates jury operations and recommends improvements.  Qualifications: include a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of experience organizing and evaluating work methods, analyzing data, and developing procedures for program activity, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.  A master's degree in business or public administration or other related field may be substituted for one year of the non-supervisory experience.  Experience as indicated above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required degree.  Salary is $42,000-56,000 annually.  (1993)

JURY SERVICES PROGRAM MANAGER: Fresno County Superior Court, Fresno, California .  Summary: The successful candidate will oversee the overall operation of a major division of the Superior Court.  Qualified applicants must possess strong organizational, supervisory and managerial abilities.  Duties: Typical responsibilities include program review and modifications, statistical analysis, assistance in the development of an automated jury system, and substantiating the jury division procedures through documentation and testimony.  Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in public or business administration or related field is required, as well as one year of recent experience in a public justice agency or large law firm.  Significant experience in managing the activities of a complex division or unit, conducting program review and statistical analysis, and public relations is desirable.  (1993)

JURY MANAGER: Orange County Superior Court, Santa Ana, California.  Duties: The incumbent manages the county-wide jury program, including analyzing, planning, developing, and administering jury systems activities; supervises the jury assembly room and monitors juror assignments in multiple county locations.  Qualifications: include three years of full-time experience (one of which must have been in a supervisory setting) that demonstrates knowledge of the functions and operations of a judicial system and the ability to understand, interpret, and apply case law affecting the administration of a California superior court.  Graduation from an accredited four-year college with a degree in public, judicial, or business administration is desirable.  Salary is $3,143-4,732 monthly.  (1992)

JURY SUPERVISOR: Twenty-Second Judicial Circuit, St. Louis, Missouri.  Summary: The incumbent ascertains, summons, and maintains a file of eligible and qualified jurors, supervision of office automation, budget preparation and fiscal management, and daily contact with the public.  Qualifications:  include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with concentrated study in business, public administration, political science, or a related field; three to five years of progressively responsible management and administrative experience including budget preparation and fiscal management, human resource management, and supervision of the implementation of an office automation system; and two to five years of practical experience managing employees who have used data entry/retrieval systems.  Three years experience working with the public is desired.  A master’s degree in the previously related fields or a law degree will also be considered.  Preference will be given to those who as part of or in addition to their degree successfully completed a minimum of nine hours coursework in computer science.  Salary is $33,618-50,414 annually.  (1991)

Jury Analyst

JURY SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM ANALYST: California Administrative Office of the Courts, San Francisco, CA.  Summary: The Analyst provides staff support to the Blue Ribbon Commission on Jury System Improvement and oversees implementation of its recommendations such as promoting the importance of jury service, creating a juror handbook, supplementing juror lists, and addressing juror facilities and security.  Duties: include analyzing legislation, collaborating with legal staff, representing the agency at meetings and with state agencies, arranging meetings and writing minutes and reports, and preparing fiscal analyses of increased juror compensation.  Qualifications:  BA (or experience to substitute) and 3 years of professional analytical or managerial experience in court or governmental operations, administration, management, or review including one year of project management (lead experience).  Monthly salary range: $4,560 - $5,545.  (1998)
