CHIEF NETWORK SPECIALIST: New York Administrative Office of the Courts. Summary: Chief Network Technologists are assigned to central or regional Division of Technology officers where they are responsible for supervising subordinate network technologists and the management of multi-vendor client/server technology environments. Duties: They are responsible for complex wide and local area networks in order to ensure availability of services to all users.  Chief Network Technologists are responsible for assisting in developing network standards, policies and procedures and for planning and installation of operating and application software and hardware.  They coordinate resolution of problems with the implementation operation and maintenance of communications media, computer equipment and network design and perform other related duties.  Expertise with large-scale convergent data/voice/video networks including the installation, monitoring and support of either voice networks (Nortel Succession/Meridian systems) or data networks (high-speed optical networks, Layer 2-3 Ethernet switches/routers and WLA )is desirable. Ability to effectively work with the user community, vendors and internal resources is required. Candidates with relevant certifications, as well as experience with project management and NOC operations are preferred. Qualifications: Certification in Network Administration within eighteen (18) months of appointment; AND one (1) year of service in the Associate Network Technologist title OR Master's degree in computer science or a related fireld from an accredited college or university and two(2) years of wide area network operations experience in Ethernet environment and SNMP OR a Bachelor's degree and five(5) years of local/wide area network operations experience and SNMP management OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Salary: $79,835 + $1,264 Locality Pay. (2005)

NETWORK SPECIALIST: Nevada Administrative Office of the Courts. Duties: Analyzes and troubleshoots software, hardware and telecommunication problems. Diagnoses application, network and system errors with users to solve problems. Documents errors and monitors frequent or recurring problems to identify the need for upgrade in user training, applications, documentation, system and court procedures. Monitors timely resolution of problems, tests resolution prior to distribution to users and follows-up with customers to ensure a resolution has been achieved. Keeps user informed of problems that cannot be resolved to other technical staff. Develops, manages and maintains change reports to LANs and WANs hardware and software inventory and user configurations. Acts as liaison with vendors for hardware repairs. Develops and maintains system documentation regarding physical topology, equipment, environment and/or software. Prepares and distributes user documentation. Administers user accounts, security access to applications and systems. Administers e-mail, including account creations, deletions, availability, back-up and storage requirements. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management or in a technical discipline and at least two years’ general experience in one or more of the following areas: working with PC hardware, software and network operations; systems, application or network design, analysis and implementation; client/server system support; software testing, acceptance and distribution; court automation. Education may substitute for experience and experience may substitute for education at a rate of 30 semester hours equating to one year of full-time work experience. Knowledge of office application software such as WordPerfect, Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint; support of operating systems such as DOS, Windows, Novell NetWare, UNIX/AIX, and IBM AS/400; the interdependence of software, hardware and networks operating in a multi-site, multi-function, multi-network processing environment; troubleshooting and support of PC’s and peripherals; client server operating systems; court case processing and automation; specialized application software to support business functions. ASSOCIATE LOCAL AREA NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR: Criminal Court, New York City. Summary: Associate Local Area Network Administrators are assigned to administrative offices throughout the Unified Court System, where, under direction of administrative office personnel and Principal Local Area Network Administrators they are responsible for large, complex, or multiple local area networks, supervising subordinate local area networks administrators, and the management of multi-vendor client/server technology environments. They are responsible for wide area networks in order to ensure availability of services to all users. Associate Local Area Network Administrators are responsible for assisting in planning and implementation of network strategies in accordance with Department of Information Technology standards, policies, and procedures. Associate Local Area Administrators configure complex local area networks and install operating and application software and hardware. They resolve problems with the implementation, operation, and maintenance of communication media, computer equipment, and network design, and perform other related duties. Qualifications: Certification in network administration within eighteen months of appointment; and one year of service in the senior local area network administrator title, or bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university and three years of local area network operations experience in IBM, Novell, LAN using Token Ring, Ethernet, Windows, and OS/2 Operating Environment. While these are minimum qualifications for this title, consideration may be given to education and experience directly related to assignment. Salary: $57,901 + Location Pay $1200. (2004)

TECHNICAL ANALYST: San Francisco, CA - - The Judicial Council, Administrative Office of the Courts has openings for Technical Analysts in the Information Systems Bureau.  Network Operations:  Summary: The analyst supports the technical environment, including hardware, operating system software, network operating system software, and telecommunications, with emphasis on the integration of hardware platforms and multiple operating systems. Duties: include monitoring usage, troubleshooting problems, adding new users, assessing the value of the technology, and recommending priorities for expansion. Qualifications:  BA (or experience to substitute) and 3 years of technical experience in the support of computer hardware, operating systems, network operating systems, telecommunications, and/or office automation software.  Experience with Novell, routers, firewall, Internet technology, and Unix systems are desired. Salary: $4,548 - $5,528/month  (1998)

PROGRAMMER/ANALYST: Summary: The Court Administrator’s Office in Montpelier, Vermont is seeking a programmer/analyst to maintain existing court computer systems and lead efforts to design and develop new systems.  Existing applications run on a statewide network of Unix systems; new applications will be client/server.  Qualifications: Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and five years of application development experience or the equivalent.  Starting salary:  $30,000 - $40,000. (1997)

NETWORK SYSTEMS CO-COORDINATOR: Data Processing/Management Information System, First Judicial District of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA.   Summary: This is a middle-level support position working primarily with the local area network and its hardware, software support to the end user in various workstations (800).  An employee in this class reports directly to the Computer Service Manager and the Director of Management Information Systems.  Duties: The following duties are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive:  performs traditional network administration duties; resolves data communication problems; implements backup and recovery procedures; identifies areas of operation which need upgraded equipment; researches, tests, evaluates, and recommends data communications hardware and software; oversees or assists in the installation of communications hardware and software; monitors modems and terminal display screen to mainframe computer to detect error messages indicating communications software or hardware malfunction; enters diagnostic commands into computer to determine nature of problem and reads codes on screen to diagnose problem; and trains staff and users on the use of equipment.  Qualifications:  bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science is preferred.  One to three years of experience in the operation of computers and computer peripheral equipment with one year of experience with administering a Local Area Network.  Equivalent combination of related training and experience may be substituted.  City residency required within six (6) months of satisfactory completion of a probationary period.  Starting annual salary range:  $29,442 - $34,401. DEPUTY DIRECTOR FOR NETWORK SERVICES: Information Technology Department, New York State Unified Court System, New York, New York.  Duties:  plan and manage components of large information technology systems including local and wide area networks.  Qualifications:  master’s degree and five years’ experience or bachelor’s degree and eight years’ experience in data processing with network responsibilities; and experience helpful in the areas of integrating SNA nodes and Novell LANs into a wide area network, TCP/IP, Frame Relay/ATM, bridge/router and hub configuration and management, SNMP and Netview 6000.  Network certification a plus.  Current environment includes a 100+ node SNA statewide network, several LANs and standalone PCs, and a small number of VAX VMS operating systems for various pilot and production applications.  Salary range:  $70,000. SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR: Justice Information Management System, Johnson County, Kansas.  Duties: The incumbent directs the implementation and administration of a highly customized and specialized Unix-based network application to meet the information management needs of the county's courts and law enforcement authorities.  Qualifications: include a degree in computer science or a related field; six years of progressively responsible experience in analyzing, designing, developing, and implementing complex business information systems; demonstrated success in leading and directing productive project status meetings; strong project management skills, with at least one project involving multiple end user groups with complex business requirements; excellent communication skills; managerial skills; and proven IS project management achievement.  Justice related experience, RDBMS experience, preferably PI-OPEN, RS-6000 with AIX/UNIX experience, and a demonstrated connectivity/cabling experience are preferred.  This position offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.  (1993)

JUDICIAL NETWORK SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR: South Carolina Court Administration, Columbia, South Carolina.  Summary: The incumbent coordinates and oversees the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of multi-user microcomputer local area networks and participates in long-range planning activities governing the growth and expansion of such networks.  Qualifications: include a bachelor's degree and four years of experience in network design and management of network activities, including installation, operation, and repair, or any combination of years of equivalent experience.  Incumbent should be Novell certified and must have previous experience in design and implementation of multi-user microcomputer local area networks.  Minimum salary is $34,000 annually.  (1992)
