PC SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR: U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg.  Duties: The administrator is responsible for day-to-day technical support for automated systems operating in MS-DOS, Windows, Novell Netware, and Unix environments; user services for word processing, database applications, and other software packages; hardware and software maintenance; troubleshooting; applications development; prototype testing; security; system enhancements; end-user training; inventories and system documentation; and assistance with support of the court's integrated case management system software and hardware.  Experience with DOS, Novell, WordPerfect 5.1, relational database management software, and network hardware.  Qualifications: Applicants should have experience in training and presentation techniques; preference will be given to candidates with advanced education in a related field, programming experience, or knowledge of federal court procedures.  Travel to other district offices required.  Salary, $28,648 - $45,063 (JSP 9 - 11).  (1994)

DIRECTOR OF DATA SYSTEMS: Supreme Court of the United States, Washington, D.C.   Summary: The incumbent is responsible for management and planning for the Court's system of Hewlett Packard minicomputers and PCs supporting LAN-connected word processing, electronic publishing, and data processing.  Duties:  Budgeting, procurement, staffing, and other traditional management activities for data-processing staff, as well as oversight for the Court's in-house printing operations and information systems security.  Qualifications:  Ten years' experience in information systems, with proven track record managing the work of computer professionals; graduate or undergraduate degree related to information systems.  Data systems management experience in the court, justice, or legal field desirable.  Salary:  Comparable to GS-15/16 (Supreme Court Managerial Pay System).  (1994)

COMPUTER SPECIALIST: Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, Washington, D.C.   The position is located in the Office Technology Branch of the Integrated Technology Division, Office of Automation and Technology.  Duties: include providing technical advice on acquisition of office automation, including personal computers, operating systems, applications, and communications equipment; assisting agency and court staff in the use of office automation systems; evaluating personal computer hardware and software and making recommendations on their use; and preparing manuals, guides, and articles.  Qualifications: computer experience directly related to the position, including use of Novell Netware 3.11 hardware and software.  Preferred qualification: Novell Certified Netware Engineer.  Grade: AO-334-11/12/13.  Salary range, $35,045 - $64,928.  Applicants may submit an optional statement addressing their knowledge of office automation technology, hardware and system integration, DOS (including Windows 3.1), and applications software such as WordPerfect 5.1.  (1994)

Finance/Accounting

SENIOR ACCOUNTANT, SYSTEMS ACCOUNTANT, OR SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTANT: Office of Finance and Budget, Accounting and Financial Systems Division, Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, Washington, D.C.  More than one position may be filled.  Duties:  developing procedures for both internal and external operating personnel; ensuring the federal judiciary's finance and accounting systems meet all Treasury regulations, GAO standards, and pertinent legislation; representing the division in conferences with high-level officials from offices outside the judiciary; formulating budgets and time lines to manage projects.  Qualifications:  degree in accounting or in a related field that includes 24 semester hours in accounting and/or auditing; one year of experience at federal grade AO-13; experience directly related to the position that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge and skills necessary for the position.  Applicants must submit a narrative statement addressing the following factors:  (1) knowledge of accounting principles, theories, concepts, techniques, and procedures; (2) ability to manage an accounting or financial operation; (3) ability to collect information for trend analysis or statistics; (4) ability to collect, analyze, and organize accounting requirements for development of automated support systems; (5) ability to communicate both orally and in writing; and (6) for the supervisory accountant position, ability to use human resources.  Salary:  $49,947 - $76,733.  (1994)

Court Reporters/Interpreters

COURT TRANSCRIBER: Superior Court of Guam, Agana, Guam.  Summary: This is highly skilled, responsible technical clerical work whose primary functions are verbatim transcriptions of electronic recordation of judicial proceedings and/or hearings.  Employees in this class perform a variety of tasks with minimal supervision to ensure maximum verbatim accuracy of transcriptions and must maintain a high standard of confidentiality in carrying out these tasks.  Qualifications:  Graduation from high school or G.E.D., equivalent, plus four years of secretarial experience of which two years must be in transcription work.  Must take and pass the required employment examination for the Court Transcriber position.  Annual salary: $26,520.   (1998)
