Survey
of Judicial Salaries
The National Center
for State Courts has published an annual Survey
of Judicial Salaries for more than 25 years.
Over the course of years, changes have taken place in how salary
data has been reported in the Survey. Currently,
the Survey presents salary
data for state court administrators and all justices and judges
of the courts of last resort, intermediate appellate courts, and
general jurisdiction trial courts. In addition, the Survey
also presents available salary data for judges of limited
jurisdiction trial courts and quasi-judicial officers.
Salary rankings cover the associate justices of the courts of
last resort; associate judges of intermediate appellate courts;
and the judges of the general jurisdiction trial courts.
Recent issues have
presented information regarding changes in average judicial
salaries since 1991 when compared to changes in the Consumer
Price Index, annual average percentage changes in real salaries,
and comparisons of real and cost-of-living-adjusted salaries and
salary rankings. Special sections in recent issues have
covered state judicial leave policies and the compensation of
senior and retired judges who are recalled to service.
