Course Overview:
This seminar will target caseflow and trial court delay for leadership judges, court managers, and special purpose staff of metropolitan general jurisdiction courts. Courts are encouraged to bring teams if they wish. Justice system officials outside the court -- e.g., prosecutors, defense lawyers, bar leaders -- may attend as well.

The program will employ a hands-on, problem-solving focus. After a plenary session about caseflow management principles, participants will be able to select and concentrate on one of three curriculum tracks: criminal, civil, or domestic relations.

Participants will be asked to complete some pre-seminar work. This work will be done online and will include a brief electronic questionnaire and limited descriptive information about the courts caseload and delay problems. As a result, the faculty will be able to understand more fully the issues and problems confronting participants. This process will also help to pinpoint possible caseflow solutions.

This event is organized in collaboration with the National Judicial College, the National Conference of Metropolitan Courts, and the Arizona Judicial Branch. International caseflow authority Ernest Friesen will serve as a principal instructor, along with William Dressel, President of the National Judicial College. A host of other caseflow experts from NCSC will also be involved with the seminar.

This seminar will be held at the Arizona Supreme Court Judicial Education Center, 541 East Van Buren, Suite B4, Phoenix, AZ 85004. This seminar is limited to 50 participants.
