Course Overview:
Managing a high profile trial is a little like being the ringmaster for a three-ring circus. The trial judge must keep the case moving forward while accommodating the needs of the media, jurors, security, and other court personnel -- and all without unduly disrupting other legitimate business taking place within the courthouse. In this two-day workshop, judges will learn proven techniques to manage a notorious trial from beginning to end. Using examples of effective, and not-so-effective, approaches from recent high profile trials, the workshop focuses heavily on pretrial management issues including judicial leadership and collaboration with essential court personnel media relations including relevant First Amendment requirements jury selection and management and contemporary security concerns.
