Course
Overview:
Is jury duty a responsibility and privilege of citizenship? Or is it an experience to be avoided? Does the public view the jury system as an opportunity or an inconvenience? How do you rate your system? Is it economical, efficient, and effective? Can it withstand a legal challenge? What are legislators doing to reduce jury system costs?
For over twenty-three years, the National Center for State Courts has studied the management of juror selection and juror service. The results of this research have led the way to more representative panels, increased citizen participation in the jury system, reduced system costs in courts, and created more defensible jury systems.
This course will draw on many significant developments of the past few years to bring you practical techniques for improving the management of your jury system. The feasibility, desirability, and methods for adopting a one-day/one-trial term of service will be presented. During this intensive course, you will learn how to save thousands of dollars annually while making jury service a positive experience for your community and ensuring its statutory integrity.
