International Rule of Law
Establishing the fair and impartial rule of law is essential to the development of democracy worldwide. NCSC International provides other countries with the expertise they need to strengthen their judiciaries and ensure that their citizens have their day in court.
Mongolia
NCSC’s Judicial Reform Project (JRP) is modernizing the administration of justice in Mongolia by supporting the development of effective management for courts and prosecutors, court technology, and legal and justice sector reforms, such as anti-corruption measures. In 2006 NCSC played a key role in improving legal education, the transparency of legal processes, and media access to the courts in Mongolia.
Afghanistan
NCSC is helping to reconstruct the formal justice system of Afghanistan. The Provincial Justice Project is creating advisory groups on law enforcement, criminal prosecution, and corrections as a pilot project in Wardak Province, southwest of Kabul. Other important NCSC work in Afghanistan includes the professionalization of lawyers and judges, improvement of criminal justice agencies’ capacities to investigate crimes and prosecute offenders, and technical support for the Ministry of Justice.
Egypt
NCSC is assisting USAID/Cairo and Regional Missions to implement strategic objectives to improve the administration of justice in Egypt. The project includes strengthening the justice sector, protecting human rights, and supporting anti-corruption reforms.
United Arab Emirates
NCSC is helping to modernize the operations of the traditional Sharia Court System in Abu Dhabi. The project involves assessing court operations and developing an IT strategy for automation.
