Assisting Children after Disasters
CSC works with courts to improve how the justice system responds to the needs of children. The Call to Action of the National Judicial Leadership Summit for the Protection of Children outlines the national action plan developed by 49 states to improve child-protection procedures and programs. NCSC’s online manual Emergency Preparedness in Dependency Courts: Ten Questions that Courts Serving Abused and Neglected Children Must Address takes the lessons of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita to help ensure that the essential functions of dependency courts are sustained during an emergency or disaster—and that cases involving children are resolved as quickly as possible.
