ICM

For more than 35 years, the Institute for Court Management has been training members of the judicial community at courthouses and other locations throughout the United States. Our excellent faculty offer classes on topics important to the court community, including jury management, court performance standards, caseflow management, and court technology. This year, ICM welcomed John R. Meeks, former director of the Supreme Court of Ohio Judicial College, as its new vice president.

Traditional classes
At locations throughout the country, ICM continues to offer courses in a traditional classroom setting on topics of interest to court personnel. In 2006 hundreds of participants attended courses on subjects such as managing court financial resources, caseflow management, court performance standards, and jury management.

eLearning
Many ICM students completed course work at their own desktops through eLearning courses. Classes were offered on topics that included purposes of courts, supervising, jury systems technology, presenting court data, and revenue enhancement, and for the first time ever, ICM offered online courses carrying CEDP and CMP certification credit. ICM continued to work with the FBI, BJS and BJA, creating online educational programs and delivering streaming presentations.

Court Executive Development Program
ICM’s Court Executive Development Program (CEDP) graduated 17 new Fellows during ceremonies held in Washington, D.C. CEDP, the flagship program of ICM and the only one of its kind in the United States, provides a rigorous, high-quality professional education to those who pursue careers in the judicial branch of government. These new ICM fellows hail from every corner of the United States, from Alaska to Texas and from South Dakota to New Jersey, as well as Canada.

Court Manager Certification
In 2006 ICM partnered with more than 2,200 state and local court employees for training in the Court Management Program, with 175 earning the Court Manager certification. Graduating students completed an in-depth analysis of the changing purposes of courts and looked at their own management and leadership styles while learning more about leadership and team-building techniques. These grads join the ranks of nearly 500 other court personnel who have earned Court Manager certification since ICM began the program in 2000. Some of the participants will begin the second level of ICM certification, the Court Executive Development Program.
