Jury Association Honors NCSC Jury Expert

The Ohio Jury Management Association (OJMA) recently presented its Award of Excellence to Tom Munsterman, director of the National Center for State Courts’ Center for Jury Studies. The award, given annually at the OJMA annual conference, recognizes “the efforts and accomplishments of individuals and/or organizations that have contributed in an exemplary way to the mission of OJMA to promote and enhance jury service in Ohio.”

“I was really surprised,” said Munsterman. It was an honor, given my respect for the organization and the previous recipients.” OJMA president Tom Shields presented the award to Munsterman. “I was at a loss for words,” Munsterman said,  “but I knew that would pass. It did.”

OJMA was formed to promote and enhance jury service for the citizens of Ohio and is made up of judges, jury commissioners, court administrators, and other court personnel involved in jury management. In one of Munsterman’s Jury News columns published in Court Manager Vol. 17, No. 2, he talks about the importance of organizations such as OJMA, “We should . . . think about such an organization in each state.” That article is available at www. ncsconline.org.
