National Center for State Courts Receives Grant
to Create the Center for Elders and the Courts
Williamsburg, Va. (June 23, 2008) – The National Center for State Courts (NCSC) is launching a Center for Elders and the Courts as a result of a grant award from the Retirement Research Foundation in Chicago.
The Center for Elders and the Courts is being established to become the primary resource for the judiciary and court management on issues related to aging, guardianship, and elder abuse. The NCSC plans to increase judicial awareness and to provide training tools and resources to improve court responses to elder abuse and adult guardianships. The Center also will develop a collaborative community of judges, court staff, and aging experts to carry on the mission of the Center for Elders and the Courts.
The National Center for State Courts has long recognized the need for greater court awareness and improved responses to elder issues. A nationally recognized voice for reform on adult guardianships, the NCSC has recently tackled the growing problem of elder abuse.
Founded in 1971, the National Center for State Courts is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the administration of justice by providing leadership, research, technology, and education services to the state courts. The NCSC is headquartered in Williamsburg, VA, with offices in Denver, CO, and Arlington, VA.
