ABC News Correspondent Joins
Board of National Court Reform Organization

Williamsburg, VA (Aug. 6, 2007) – Manuel Medrano, Legal Affairs Correspondent for ABC News, recently joined the Board of Directors for the National Center for State Courts, a non-profit organization that serves as a leader and a resource for the nation’s state courts. He will serve a three-year term.

“We are very pleased that Mr. Medrano has agreed to join The National Center’s board,” said Mary McQueen, president of The National Center. “His broad legal knowledge and experience with the national media will be invaluable to the National Center.”

Mr. Medrano came to ABC News in 2004 from KNBC in Los Angeles, where he was a general assignment reporter focusing on legal issues. There he provided legal analysis and commentary for the station’s comprehensive coverage of several high-profile cases, including O.J. Simpson and the Menendez brothers. In 1995, his coverage of the Simpson case earned him an Emmy Award and Golden Mike Award. Prior to joining KNBC, Mr. Medrano was a trial lawyer with Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal in Los Angeles, specializing in complex civil and white collar criminal litigation. He also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Los Angeles U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The National Center, headquartered in Williamsburg, Va., is a non-profit court reform organization dedicated to improving the administration of justice by providing leadership and service to the state courts. The National Center, founded in 1971 by the Conference of Chief Justices and Chief Justice of the United States Warren E. Burger, provides education, training, and technology, management, and research services to the nation’s state courts. The National Center also is taking the lead on several key issues facing the justice system. For example, it has established a major civil justice initiative, a multi-year project that is examining best practices in civil case management and how complex litigation procedures can be improved. Other national initiatives being driven by the National Center include judicial selection reform and increasing citizen participation in jury service.
