THE POSITION:
The
American Bar Association is seeking an
experienced individual to join their Justice
Center. The Justice Center Director will
direct the work and staff of four (4) ABA
entities. These entities include the
Judicial Division, the Coalition for Justice,
the Standing Committee on Judicial Independence
and the Standing Committee on Federal Judicial
Improvements. All of these entities are
engaged in justice system reform, outreach to
the public on justice system issues and
improvement opportunities. To accomplish
its goals and programs, the Justice Center draws
on the expertise of Judges, Bar Leaders, Law
Professors, Law School Deans and other experts.
The
Justice Center Director will be responsible for
budget development and management, including
grant development and fund raising. They will
undertake the highest level of substantive
judicial legal work. This will
include providing support and expertise to the
work of the staff and members of the entity.
Management responsibilities include hiring,
training, and supervising the work of other
attorneys (including senior attorneys) and the
non-legal staff of the entity. The Justice
Center Director will also conduct in-depth legal
research, legal writing, and publishing.
Additionally, they will be speaking and
presenting as a national expert in his/her area
of legal expertise.

Requirements
Education
Law
Degree and admission to the bar in at least one
jurisdiction.
Experience
Minimum
of 10 years in law practice in the appropriate
substantive area of law. Experience in
resource development, program
conception/management and personnel management
is required. Strong communication and
organizational skills with the ability to
exercise independent judgment and work with
multiple constituencies. Experience in a
not-for-profit or volunteer member setting
desirable.
