The newest addition to the
NCSC Court Information Database is a resource guide that specifically
addresses domestic violence in the military, the military’s response
to domestic violence, prevention efforts, and a coordinated response
to domestic violence by civilian and military authorities.
Local courts handle
the majority of domestic violence charges against enlisted personnel
with 70 percent of military families living off base. The
differences in military procedures vary for assisting both the victim
as well as the perpetrator in the handling of a domestic violence
incident. Collaborative efforts between the civilian and
military communities can assist greatly in victim safety as well as
offender accountability. The resources provided in the
“Domestic Violence in the Military Resources Guide,” will assist
the court community in better understanding the dynamics involved as well as
the challenges that the military community faces when confronting
domestic violence issues.
Current online and
print information resources were gathered from numerous sources for
this resource guide that include:
-
-
Programs and
initiatives to combat domestic violence in the military;
-
Organizational
resources for both professionals and military families; and
-
Research reports
and evaluation studies
The “Domestic
Violence in the Military Resource Guide,” can be found online in the
NCSC Court Information Database in the Juvenile and Family Violence
folder, Family Violence subtopic at: http://www.ncsconline.org/WC/Publications/KIS_FamVioMilitaryResGd.pdf
